Tomorrow we are sending second CA fleet to block enemy route of retreat towards Java and also bunch of subs to create a wall in front of Batavia. This is the situation around Palembang on New Year's Eve:

This is a result of this slugfest:

Takao will be missed, but enemy naval assets are dangerously thin in Western part of the map after today. 1942 will be walk in the park for us.

I'm afraid so. Those tankers were sent on short trip from Takao to Hong Kong and it was my mistake not to send them on flank speed. Also no sub presence was notced by nav search on this area so I guessed it was safe. I guess I was wrong...

Allied bombardment attack turns against attackers:

Ground combat at Cagayan (79,89)

Defending force 7558 troops, 93 guns, 16 vehicles, Assault Value = 189

Japanese ground losses:
69 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
57 casualties reported
Squads: 12 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled

Assaulting units:
103rd PA Infantry Regiment
3rd PA Constabulary Regiment
2nd/101st PA Battalion
102nd PA Infantry Division
III Philippine Corps
Cagayan USAAF Base Force
102nd PA Infantry Regiment

Defending units:
144th Infantry Regiment
146th Infantry Regiment
Kure 1st SNLF

This Mindanao operation has proven to be too long and too tedious for my taste. Perhaps we could simply isolate and bypass Allies for the time being and return after their supply situation turns them red? Could we have taken out those B17s and P40s simply by trashing Cagayan airfield? Things to ponder on...

PI AREA:

After taking of Batangas, our plan to turn it into BB replenishment port is taking it’s shape. AKEs have arrived but there is still problem of mines around Bataan. To deal with it, we’ve decided to send at least 10 1 point AMc-s in a kamikaze mission against mines and guns of Bataan. First victims fall bravely for the Emperor:

TF 394 encounters mine field at Bataan (78,77) - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

6 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

AMc Fumi Maru #2 firing at Manila Bay Defenses
49 mines cleared

Just SI of Balikpapan, our DMS flotilla was jumped by same force that almost sunk CVL Ryujo the other day, but is not as lucky as the luckiest ship in Japanese fleet:
