Had a definite economic round last turn. Did some serious checking on aircraft coming in late-44/early-45 and didn't see anything I could really do without. Wanted to check engine production as well as make sure everything that needs to be 'off' is, in fact, 'off!'

It is more of a spiritual 'pay' then anything else. Course I have to talk with him once or twice a week and 'tolerate' all his whining and complaining. This is, after all, a two way street...

The Americans have begun what I could best describe as 'harrassment' bombing of the Home Islands. Every night sees 1-2 dozen bombers flying in and, generally, hitting Kyushu. Every strike has been met by a few Night Fighters and one strike flew during the day where nine B-29 got crushed by 72 Fighters.

Queries that I have pertain to the fires. Here is a screenshot of 3 B-29 creating a HUGE amount of fires. Is this normal?

Baby Steps Team. The Japanese, three weeks ago, were looking at the complete collapse and cutting off of Indochina by the Allies coming from Thailand. A decision was made to deliver two precious Infantry Divisions and a TK Reg. These troops landed at Hue and Haiphong. Since then a series a small land victories have occurred as the Allied presence has been driven out of the area.

Lang Son is the last base left that had been taken. It comes back to Japan on the 19th of September where the Japanese score a 2-1 assault causing over 2,000 casualties to be inflicted and driving the Allies north out of the base.

Not much but NICE!

In a reasoned gamble, another convoy of Tankers is sent out from Borneo past southern Mindanao. The Convoy carries a bit over 80,000 Fuel and easily gets through. If nothing happens tomorrow then this convoy is successful and heads for the Marianas.

All TK/AO are unloaded in the Home Islands and any with damage were disbanded in Tokyo and are now 100%. They depart heading for the Marianas and a return trip to the DEI.

What night fighters got to them? 27 hits from 3 B29s means to me they weren't interfered with at all. Wrong altitude settings maybe? You want Irvings to intercept which means at flying +- 2k of the bombers altitudes. With UP guns it is usually best to fly slightly lower than higher.

Or were the Irvings flying from another base and hence never closed with the bombers?

Also what AA did you have in place?

Anyhow, that isn't a fire...wait till they are half a million and you lose 5000 to 10000 VP to complain.

Btw, if that is all the night fighters you can muster for that area, you better roll some Georges over to night duty.

Just shifted three Sentai of Franks over to Night. Would you think George is better?

Will check the altitude question and make sure settings are corrected next turn.

+1

500,000 is hard, but 24,000 is a pinprick. A "decent" B-29 night raid in good weather, with average fighter harassment, could expect 50,000ish that burn with decreasing numbers over 3 days +/-.

George vs Frank B for night duty...no clue. Try them both, probably comes down to pilot quality though.

I think M-M had good luck using Randy 102a as night fighters...but I don't think you have those? Maybe Randy 102b?

OK. Went through the entire Fighter defense of the Home Islands and shifted some regular Fighters over to night. Also went and checked all my NF altitude settings and ranges. Hope things get a bit more effective.

Dan is a true witch sometimes. The man can absolutely divine things in my head WHEN I have them!

Between Formosa and Luzon
Since he didn't allow my glorious attack upon his Shore Bombardment TF 7 days ago, I kept looking for an opportunity. Seeing small TFs at Camiguin and Hengchow, I move in 70 Kami DB and 24 Judy with a full strength Sentai of Franks for escort. Evidently, his spidey senses kicked in and so the 1,000,000,000+ Allied Fleet moved in just a hex from Batan. Facing easy pickings versus an IMPOSSIBLE mission the Japanese--for the most part--immolate themselves against the massed Allied warships.

A few planes elect to spend their lives and aircraft on targets WITH NO CAP at all. To that end, a pair of big, fat 800 Kg Bombs sink DD Woolworth at Hengchun and a Kami hits an APA at Camiguin. Not much but at least it is something.

Hawaii
As said before, when ASW picks up somewhere I simply move my SS to other, old hunting grounds. The West Coast suddenly got a little hot (lost an I-Boat and got another crippled) so I decided to move the remaining three operational bots to the environs of Hawaii. They arrive on the 21st and immediately score:

I-15 plants TWO TTs into the TK Spencer Kellogg sinking it and then moves on to do the same thing with the Ruth Kellogg. NICE WORK!

China
Hmmmmm...the Chinese begin to stir. All along the northern front, Chinese bombard their hex to see what is present at each location. No issues--YET. Bet that Tsunami is coming. Figuring this is about to happen I started to create a thin reserve on the rail-lines. It isn't much (2 ID, 3 TK Reg, and some Artie) but it is ready to move when needed.

You can use really timid commanders...but they still sometimes fly into heavy CAP, especially if your search is poor.

September 22, 1944

Had a rough day yesterday. In a realm of probably TMI, I had a mole/wart that starting looking nasty and went in to see my Doctor. She saw it, said we need to take care of this and several others, and then removed them. Had three taken off my right hand she had to do a local on it so my hand was USELESS for most of the day. STUPID! It was good to have them removed but not what I planned to do with my day.

On the BRIGHT side I took my eldest to the theatre yesterday where we watched a Three Movie Planet of the Apes Marathon ending with the new film getting released today/tomorrow. That was BLAST! Ate our weight in popcorn, drinks, and other concessions. The new film--War for the Planet of the Apes--was excellent. Not at all what I expected...

Bottom line is that we got nothing done in the campaign yesterday.

Got a turn run and sent today. Operation Aurora is about to start tomorrow.

Had an SS score again!

I think this might be the 2nd or 3rd time I have planted a Torp into this CL!

I put 8-9 into the POW during the course of a game without ever sinking her. How I hate that ship.

Glad you got it taken care of. I go under the knife later this month, well under the laser but knife sounds more barbaric, doesn't it.

There is great truth to that statement. Had an older member of church who ignored the Doctor's advice, waited, and then allowed it to become skin cancer. AWFUL!

Just a quick glance tells me how all this fuel coming in has helped the economy. Have supply appearing in good amounts RAPIDLY and my HI is climbing 4-5,000/turn.

Got another small TK Convoy through so that makes nearly 140,000 Fuel/Oil almost to the Marianas. That total gives me another month of operating AND I am building a reserve at Saipan for the Kaigun. This is good.
