Hi, the designation of the Task Force and Task Groups were used in RL. They were usually a tactical groupings based on a specific mission. quote:

Eg. TG 38/58.1-4 for carriers, .5 for oilers, .6 for replenishment carriers, etc. TG 77.1 for SCTF, TG 77.2 for Fire Support, TG 77.3 for MSW, TG 77.4 for Assault shipping, TG 77.5 for supplies, TG 77.6 for garrison troops, TG 77.7 for naval auxiliaries, etc.
