I see that the Task Forces in the Guadalcanal scenario are attached to different Task Groups, 62.4, 62.5, etc. What is the purpose of a Task Group, and since obviously all these TFs are going to the same place, Guadalcanal, why aren't they all in one Task Group, such as Task Group 62?

They are all different task forces. In this instance, they are grouped just like real life. TF-58 was the same way historically. Game wise, means nothing.

Hi, the designation of the Task Force and Task Groups were used in RL. They were usually a tactical groupings based on a specific mission.

quote:

TF 61
TG 61.1 - Air Support Force (Saratogas Unit, Enterprise Unit, Wasp Unit, Fueling Group)
TF 62 South Pacific Amphibious Force
TG 62.1 Convoy (Transport Group X-Ray for Guadalcanal, Y-Ray for Tulagi)
TG 62.2 Escort (Australia, Canberra, Hobart, Chicago + DDs)
TG 62.3 Fire Support Group L (Vincennes, Quincy, Astoria + DDs) for Guadalcanal
TG 62.4 Fire Support Group M (San Juan, 2xDDs) for Tulagi
TG 62.5 Minesweeper Group (5xDMS)
TF 63 Land Based Air, South Pacific Force

In game it can help player to keep track of his units. Eg. TG 38/58.1-4 for carriers, .5 for oilers, .6 for replenishment carriers, etc. TG 77.1 for SCTF, TG 77.2 for Fire Support, TG 77.3 for MSW, TG 77.4 for Assault shipping, TG 77.5 for supplies, TG 77.6 for garrison troops, TG 77.7 for naval auxiliaries, etc.
