Thanks for the screenshots. Couple of questions:

-Those interfaces boxes, can they be hidden or move? or just move?
-The minimap appears to stay the same, could be hidden as well?

All the Control Panel features (including the micromap and the info panel) can be hidden as well as moved.

If you are planning to release any new screenshots soon, I would like to see how this BTS thingie looks on map, the new jump map (thanks Bob) or any newer features.

About the screenshots: since the 3D unit image is gone (kinda miss it), I think the unit icon could be a little bigger. Just sayin'

My one major complain about war and stategy games today are the interfaces. Take any random Matrix game and the interface is about 10 - 15 years behind the curve. I like what I see in TOAW, much better.

The attached shot shows the Jump Map. It also shows the Unit Panel in Group Composition mode. (And like when it is in Stack mode, mousing around the stacks on the map changes what is in the Group view - so this is an easy way to examine the stacks on the map).

Here's an example of the BTS marker: There are three possible sets of crossed swords: Silver = Combat Report available; Gold: = Combat Planned; Bronze = BTS.

So, a combat has taken place in the hex. It included a late unit, causing a BTS. And there has been another combat setup for the hex.

Note in the Unit Panel the current round is 2. But note in the Info Panel the BTS hex is at round 5.

Also note that this illustrates the benefit of the BTS system: In the old system, the current round would be 5 -> 3 rounds would have been lost due to the late unit. Instead, only one round was consumed and the only consequence is some delay contained in this one hex.

Great for the Jump Map and the Stack mode of the Unit Panel, cool stuff.

If you may accept a little criticism in term of graphics, the BTS symbol is hidding too much the unit counter. Is it possible to make it a little smaller or move it a little bit outside the unit counter?

You can toggle it off/on.

Okay thanks but still. If it is there I intend to use it. But I realize it is hard to guess on a screenshot the usability of it.
The functionality by itself is great. More combat turns per units despite a bad luck even if you are carefully planning your attacks...

Truly appreciate the effort you and the team have given toward making TOAW IV the successor to TOAW III. There have been many (myself certainly included) who doubted this day would come.

Thank you.

I really think the presentation is near perfect. Wargames Graphics are divided between extremely silly and uninformative models of Soldiers & Tanks and ugly, amateurish NATO-Symbols with terrible colour palettes. Not to mention the awful UIs straight out of Excel 95.
TOAW IV looks like an actual game with good graphics design, all with a fitting ui. Its easily the best-looking Hex-Wargame i ever saw. Thank you for your efforts!

I figured I would bump this thread to allow you windbags (you know who you are) to go for a 14th page of nonsense while we wait for TOAW IV. And wait. And wait. Two years now, if you count from the official announcement, although I see that this is considered by many to be merely version 3.5 of TOAW III which was in the works well before then.

I looked at the preview (which is a great sign of progress, finally!) and I really don't see much to IV over III other than improved interface (darn it, I may buy IV just for that) and bigger map, they say?

Two years. Ho-hum. Send me an e-mail someday, will you? (I'm sure they will. )

You made me check in to see who was the latest to ask for an eta, as if the developers were sitting around waiting for someone to ask, lol.

There is quite a lot that IV has over III. You can see some details here:

Thanks for that post! Much of it is over my head (at this point) but at least I can wrap my arms around some of it and sing softly while I wait.

Caution: That post is quite old.

Let's see.

I like this:
The modeling of ships has been improved.

And this:
Embarked units no longer employ their own strengths in defense.

And this:
Sea Interdiction can now be employed by aircraft, ships, and coastal guns.

And this:
There is now an intermediate supply state that falls between “Supplied” and “Unsupplied”. It’s called “Overextended”.

And this:
Now, the player-turn advances to the median length combat round (instead of the longest).

And this:
The Combat Report now makes it clear how each combat consumed rounds.

And especially these!
Dialogs now scale relative to font size.
Dialogs now have scroll bars when appropriate.
Some dialogs have sorting ability.
There will be additional map zoom levels between the current ones.
Control panel features will be hide-able – showing more of the map
Fonts settable within the game rather than the .ini file.
More info on the Situation Report.
New Map and Interface artwork.

I'm holding back buying TOAW 3, because I hope the new game will be released this year. But within the next two weeks, I don't think so.

Look at it like this, the longer the delay until roll-out, the more opportunity for scenario designers to add and refine new scenarios, and vet and update TOAW III scenarios...

Be patient, you Dogs of War.
