Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Allied #7. USSR, Europe.

With the long break that Pat and I have had from this game I had forgotten how dire the situation was for the Soviet Union.

Frankly, this game looks hopeless for the Allies.

Interesting. I am coming back to it and see how fragile the axis look - stretched to the breaking point. :-)

ND42 i 9 axis
Actions: Japan naval, GE land, Italy combined.
Japan moves to CA (one carrying a GE Mar division to the E. Med). The Japanese move a number of units around, including a CP to the Mariana's to put Truk back in supply.
The image below shows the potential naval combats and the search results through round 1 if I initiated combat.

Note the following reactions that I made for you.
In the The Marshall's, I reacted out your Mustang stationed on Midway to the 0-box.
In the Central Pacific, the Dauntless stationed on Midway covered the 0-box.

Polynesia naval combat. I only engaged the 0-box. Made it a sub combat and destroyed both CP with the 7 SP. I stayed, but did not commit the subs for round 2.

Marianas naval combat. I engaged both boxes with 4 SP. Made it a naval air, and used surprise to increase my A-A 2 columns.
Lost my lead bomber on your first roll (JP choice). On the return fire, you had the choice of aborting your fighter or bomber, I chose your bomber for you and send it back to Kwajalein. In the second round, I had you abort one of my bombers (it was your choice) and then I shot down the fighter. Good second D damage control resulted in only damaging the CA.

East Med.
1. Yes, the RN will make a desperate play and attempt to initiate combat there. Their one and only objective is to isolate and sink the Italian CP in the 0-box. The RN will stay and continue with this objective until search rolls fail or combat ends. If their objective is met, the RN will flee through the Red Sea to the safety of the port in Aden.

Bismark Sea.
2. Yes, the USN will attempt to initiate combat. Their objective is to destroy, damage or abort the IJN transport with marine corps. After that they will assume the best defensive posture available that keeps them in the area. USN forces will stay for the duration. Return any aborted planes to the most forward bases(s) that remain in supply.

In the East Med. The Italians reacted out a fighter to the 0-box. Search rolls of 4/5 resulted in no combat.
In the Bismarck Sea I did not commit the US sub for round 1 nor react out any JP aircraft. The search rolls were 9/3 and the allies found with 6 SP. Thinking ahead I foresaw a need of 2 SP to lower AA to ne and 2 SP to raise the result from an A to a D. That left 2 SP to use in A-A, so I raised your attack 1 level. (+2).
Result shown below. The JP got to choose what to abort and aborted your bomber to Rabaul. You got the choice of aborting the NAV or the front fighter. I had the JP zero aborted (went to Manila area). Combat ended for round 1.
IN round 2 I committed the US subs since there were no A-S factors with any of the US fighters, but it was for nought with search rolls of 10/9.

In the A-A over Rostov, both bombers were aborted.

In the land combat I had both sides lead with winterized units. The fractional missed, but the attack roll more than made up for it.

The first time through, I had an extra click in selecting the destroyed units and the game managed to not destroy the division, so when I went to advance after combat I was not allowed to enter the hex. Redid it taking care to destroy the units without any extraneous clicks and then it worked. I will see if I can replicate tomorrow and place a bug report on the Tech Support Forum.

I will finish the turn tomorrow and get the game file to you in my early afternoon.

ND42 i9 done, turn continues, weather stays poor, but not as bad as it could be.
Note, JP moved a CA and amph to Manila and then reorganized them with a couple of transports in the China Sea.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1940. Allied #11. RN Naval Moves (Two, combine).

1. A lone CP moves from Victoria, Seychelles into the Arabian Sea (adjacent to port). As this CP is headed for the Eastern Med to attempt to reestablish supply to the CW forces there the IJN attempts to intercept using their fighter for the attempt. The attempt fails and the CP continues unmolested to the East Med.

2. The RN BB Warspite and CA Effingham, which are now back in supply, sortie from Alexander to the 3-box of the East Med.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Allied #11. USN, Naval Move 3 of 3.

The third and last USN naval move is a massive carrier task force out of Pearl headed for the Marianas. But first it must brave the IJN subs operating in Marshalls.

Do you wish to attempt an intercept?

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Allied #11. Contested Sea Areas. East Med.

The RN will not to attempt to initiate combat in the East Med. However, the Italians can if they wish. The only additional air unit that the CW has available that could react is a fighter based on the coast in Egypt.

Do the Italians wish to attempt to initiate combat? If so, what are their orders if contact is made?
