a lot of it was it was that this was an accident. if you prepare for this, you do much better. 7/42-10/42 if you have managed to take out CK, then turning against the Bear is something to see .... it means no india or aus ... would be very interesting to see ... again, it is about being ready, not having 70% of your forces aimed for the DEI ....

he's doing great considering the starting point.

Some thoughts... I've played a few games with active Soviets, albeit with the Focus Pacific mod. If Lowpe can lodge some troops on a good, defensible position on the rail line, he can slowly starve Vladivostok and the rest of the southern Soviet bases, forcing the allied player's hand - he'll have to either try and break out from Vladivostok, move to dislodge the rail line forces, or try and relieve Vladivostok by punching through from the north.

Harbin is extremely vulnerable to industry bombing in an active Soviets game, so it doesn't hurt to beef up day and night CAP over that hex.

The Mig has good high speed and is a great sweeper, but is similar to the P-38 in that it lacks maneuverability, making it vulnerable to sweeps itself. None of the Soviet fighters have a good gun value at this point in the game, so they often get less kills than you would expect. A couple of crack Zero squadrons can do a lot to deplete the Soviet fighter force, and with the Soviets only receiving 50 pilots a month in replacements, you have a good shot of running the allied player out of pilots.

Okha produces a small but not insignificant amount of oil, which, if captured, is a convenient source of oil much closer to the Home Islands than the DEI.

Vladivostok and other coastal hexes are VERY vulnerable to naval bombardment. Besides laying some mines and flooding the approach with subs, there is next to nothing the allied player can do to prevent regular bombardments, which can decimate the allied player's primary port and airfield. Threats to your battleships by air are minimal, but do exist, in the form of the DB-3T, the Soviet twin-engine torpedo bomber, so LRCAPing the bombardment group is important.

Soviets on the advance with well made up army groups. Lots of Soviets bombings...including over 60 of the torpedo bombers. Luckily they are bombing my troops and not firebombing Osaka or Tokyo at night.

Allied ships heading back for repairs...

2 Carriers and Warspite damaged, but I have no ability to hit them except with Jakes.

Working on the turn...

Still amassing troops for the Singers crossing, almost there.

More warships are arriving around Honshu, which will hopefully start opening up shore bombardments of the Soviet bases. I am extricating my troops from the Soviet thrust, unfortunately my troops will retreat in the wrong direction. Problematic, that is.

China got several brigades, that will join up with their other halves to form divisions.

Moving on Wenchow. Bombarding Clark AF. Magwe will be mine with all oil intact. AA and Eng forces already there.

A key point in '42 for the IJ ... those Div's are a big deal normally, now ... they are HUGE .

DL 4/5

The escorts got off a good attack on the Gar, with the CS being spotted, but I am sure the Allies put up a strong sub screen hoping to catch the KB as it moved to counter the Allied carriers.

"is out of ASW ammo"
is a bad message to read for an ASW escort .... you might want to detach for a speed re-arm and allow it to catch up...

Done and done. A destroyer without ASW ammo is likely dead, and needs being escorted to replenish.

The Allied subs are thick as thieves, everywhere, but the lone hit, from a Soviet sub no less, fails to explode against a cargo ship. However one sub got a shot off on a Light Cruiser which is always cringeworthy.

Soviets capture a base after bombing. Most of the troops retreat to the east...the wrong way. I realized this about 5 days to late...

Soviet High Command also picks Kirin for another parachute attack...this by the 1st Parachute Battalion. However, elements of the 1st Tank Division are assembling here and they quickly round up the Soviets.

Despite having field AA units at both bases, only 2 transports are shot down, although quite a few are damaged.

Finished the turn and got a super fast turnaround to Obvert. Normally, I have flipping turns in around 3 days. I told him not to get used to it.

Once I catch my breath here, I will show the absolute carnage wrecked upon the IJN here in the early going. I think I have stuffed the shipyard to the gills with damaged warships...

This is the craziest game I have ever played.

I am sitting on Magwe, waiting for more AA to arrive before I take it. The two small oil bases in the lower SRA I haven't taken yet until I can suppress the level 4 runways nearbye. And of course Singers is still not taken.

Would have been nice...the Allies are building up a Festung here and there isn't much I can do yet, if at all.

Yikes, those are huge losses .... your pilot pools must be truly drained ... do you even have a training program in place?

Not surprising, how can you fighting on so many fronts? Wish I had a suggestion, but other than maxing out every loose FP group to 24, I dont' see how you can do it ... and not sure how that fits your HR's ...

We have no hard and fast rule about super sizing. Generally, I won't increase a fighter squadron past 36, and a bomber squadron past 27, and a float plane squadron past 9 unless it starts bigger.

However, I got weak knees here and given the extreme hardship Japan is in, I have sized several float planes to 24, and broken them down into thirds and I am using them to fly night CAP. But I don't have the Petes to fill them. Sigh.

I keep one factory on Petes, set at 5 or 6 per month, usually until June. I then convert this factory to A6M3s (since these are nor really useful or needed in great numbers). This builds up a replacement pool for trainers and bombardment spotters for the CAs and BBs that will usually last the whole war. Since you use Petes in a combat duties, are you not producing at least a handful of them every month?
