I tried the search function, no joy there.

How does base support work? I understand aviation support and naval support, buy how does the land unit support system function? I understand that HQ units provide it, within a certain radius.

Thanks in advance.

The kind of support provided by HQs affects training, receiving devices to fill out TOE and bonuses in combat. It might also accelerate planning for new objectives a little.

Support squads within unit and at Base Forces are designed to look after medical needs, supply of things like uniforms, quartering (tents to barracks), army fine dining, showers, and recreation. All of these things help troops recover from fatigue and disablement, which improves morale an helps them fight better.

Some units have only support squads (like Coast Defense and AA) to operate their equipment/weapons/radar.

LCU support is addressed at several locations in the manual. The key locations are:

s. 8.2.1 (page 182)
s. 8.4.2.1 (page 196)
s. 15.0 (page 249)
s. 15.3.1 (page 251)

I think he is confusing or at least mixing up support and HQ effects.

The radii of HQ effects has nothing to do with support.

Support is provided by support devices.

HQ's typically have lots of support devices.

LCUs are made of devices. Many LCUs have Support or Motorised Support devices. The LCUs that have such devices almost every time do not have ENOUGH such devices - this is by design. Abundant support devices can be found in HQ units, but not in all of them.

Support devices help undisable any disabled devices in a unit. The best way to heal such devices is to have more support devices than disabled devices. This can be achieved by pairing a disabled LCU with an HQ unit or sharing surplus support devices between two LCUs ( there are some Chines corps that have ample support squads).
