v1.9 adds proper insignia for several US Combat Engineer Battalions as well as a touched up version of the SHAEF insignia. Every US Combat Engineer Battalion in the game is covered, although many of them are generic. Work to find the proper insignias continue. The (+) version of the 504th US Parachute regiment insignia was missing from the game, so added here as well.

(Please note that the v1.7 content and earlier has been removed from this addon since it is now part of the main game itself.)

Install instructions are included inside the archive, downloadable via the Dropbox link in the bottom of this post. When you go to that page there may be a small delay before the download button appears. Enjoy.

I haven't looked at this site in about ten years, but when I was making Combat Mission uniform mods I found the information here extremely useful.

I'm sure you already know about it, but just in case:

What I liked about it was that the site was being constantly updated whenever new research turned up another shoulder patch, and there was a section for identifying mystery insignia.

I think this site also used to have a collection of military license plates at one point (it was very easy to tell from the letters on the license plate which branch of the armed forces a unit belonged to).

Being about the German army and airforce the site is auf Deutsch, but I don't think it's too hard to use if you don't know any German.

Status: offline 		I haven't looked into this recently, but my hazy recollection is that the U.S. 1rst, 2nd, and 3rd Armor divisions didn't have any text under their triangular symbols during this period. I think this was added in after WW II or the Korean War. So unless you can document that the "Hell on Wheels" part of the 2nd Armor division patch was in use during the early '40's, you should probably show the patch as a simple triangle with the division number, somewhat like the tank battalions.

However, these 3 insignias already exist in the vanilla game. With the exception of minor tuning (removing jaggies, sharpening etc), I've decided not to make any major alterations to already existing vanilla game insignias in order to keep things simple.

Also on the Insignia some are not 100% historical - Mea Culpa. I took a choice to balance eye candy with history. Some have the swastika removed to ensure no laws are broken and some have been modified along similar lines. The German HQs with the Battenberg Cake pattern are similar to those Ed Williams (Volcano Man) did for his HPS mods - I've never seen a historical example but I like them.

I thought it was easier to delete than create.

Status: offline 		8th BR Army added, which now completes the 15th (AAI) BR Army Group at the beginning of the Battleground Italy scenario.

Red Lancer's collection of German Stug unit insignias (almost all battalions and brigades throughout the war) have been added as well. They are planned to be added in a future WitW patch, but he was so kind to let us get them in advance.

First post in the thread updated with v1.1 collage and attached file.

there are also allied units without insignia and almost all the italian army their units do not have insignia in the main campaign.
we expect a new update
excellent work,in my opinion is a importan aspect,give more immersion and historicity to the game,thanks.

If you know of a unit insignia that are not in the game then please let us know so we can add them. Hats off to Darojax for his improvements.

Status: offline 		i liked the update in the Italian divisions to be practically finished,only units of regiments or battalions remain.
i only miss the insignia of the 5 cosseria infantry división,but looking for the insignia if in another update you want to add to the división.

it is hard work, there are still many divisions of German infantry and static without a badge and a division of renown as the herman goering has no badge in the main campaign.

Status: offline 		The Hermann Göring Panzer Division insignia does actually exist in the game, but at the start of the grand campaign scenario the unit is in a reduced state and has a minus inside parenthesis symbol (-) after it's name, thus the existing insignia does not link.

I've updated the insignia addon to v1.3.1 and added a fix for the Hermann Göring PzDiv, and also added the collar insignia for the Italian 5th 'Cosseria' Division, thanks for providing this image. Updated zip package in the first post of this thread.

i could see that the Italian infantry division piacenza has no insignia,also these german divisions have no insignia,708 infantry división,343 infantry división,155 reserve panzer división,348 static división,18 luftwaffe field división,all static infantry división in germany,16 luftwaffe field división,i have to see if the divisions of the Russian front some have no insignia.

Status: offline 		I should have been clearer - the main reason for missing insignia is that I can't find what they look like. (A few more have been added for WitE2 but I haven't had the time to back check them against WitW.) If you can find examples then please post a picture and we can add them.

Status: offline 		Italian 103rd 'Piacenza' Division does have a collar insignia in the game (works in some scenarios), but same issue as with HG PzDiv.

The fix will be in update 1.4.

Status: offline 		Red Lancer informed me the new 1st BR Armoured Division insignia present in the 1.6 version is incorrect, it wasn't created until 1982.

New addon version 1.6.1 replaces it with the old vanilla insignia. Downloadable in first post.

* 167th US AAA Gun Battalion
* 20th US Combat Engineer Battalion
* 112th US Combat Engineer Battalion
* 146th US Combat Engineer Battalion
* 254th US Combat Engineer Battalion
* Engineer Rail Group MTO Service (US Engineer Corps insignia)
* Generic patch for many US AA Battalions (unable to find a distinctive unit insigna)
* Generic patch with battalion numeral for many US Combat Engineer Battalions (unable to find distinctive unit insignia)
* Generic patch for several US Engineer Ground Service Regiments (unable to find distinctive unit insignia)
* I Corps BR Royal Engineer Battalion
* de France FF Commando Battalion
* Group de Canonniers-Marins FF Artillery Battalion
* Groupe d'Afrique FF Commando Battalion

In total 71 insignias added. All units of the Allied 15th Army Group in the beginning of the Grand Campaign scenario now has an insignia, from the Army Group HQ down to every Battalion.

All US Combat Engineer Battalions have been added.
All other units have been removed from the addon since they are now part of the main game.

I have been able to find many more of the real US Combat Engineer Battalion insiginas. Currently working on them and will update this addon with real life replacements for several of the currently generic insignias asap.
