The game I'm currently playing has a community going through hiccups... great guys, great game, but a long time passes before turns happen in PBEM. I'm work from home now, and I have time on my hands and a hankering for digital WW2 battle. I am itching to pick this game up, but A.I. quickly loses its shine for me... So, is there a strong PBEM community going on? I'll likely pick this game up anyway, but if battles with humans are aplenty, then my click to purchase will feel a lot better. Thanks all in advance.

Right now there are 10 or more games/people looking for another player. In the last several months I have not seen less than 5 looking.

PS what game have you been playing?

Advanced Tactics Gold... a lot of guys are real busy with work and school and such. I was in the middle of some games when the last flood of offers came up and didn't jump in. Now mine are done and they are running slow. So it could be some time before I get the shot at some more. I have one going--and maybe a second, but can fit more than that. My wife is back to work now, and I work from home. Kids are driving me a bit nuts as I play mommy and daddy, so some battles to put my mind someplace else, to prepare to once more enter the breach against my lovely little goblins, is greatly needed. Turnbased is awesome like that. I actually got so desperate I started playing table top WW2 games ( Bolt Action) against my little ones, but I somehow manage to handle them easily :) ... Gonna' grab the game now and get my chops up...thanks, sir. Now I have a carrot in front of me to keep going...

Hi ArmouredLion,

Welcome to the SC community!

The game is still somewhat fun for me against the A.I., but only when playing the later Campaigns. Right now I am playing the 1943 - Operation Citadel campaign as the Axis against the Allied AI, and having a blast!
I took Kursk only to have it taken back...and then took it again! A very interesting slug fest that now has me in a slightly advantageous position (with the initiative), as I have also been able to contain (for now...) the allied invasion of France. Lot's of fun.

That being said, the game is much more fun played as PBEM++.

Enjoy it!

Cheers,

C

Hi ArmouredLion (like the handle!),

SC3 community is very friendly and helpful. I agree with CC1 that PBEM is really the best way to experience the game. And since turns are quick, you can get through multiple tturns in a day, if your opponent is willing.

A big difference between the AI and a good human player is that tactically the AI tends to be conservative and nearly always goes for the short-term, sure thing like destroying a unit rather than bypassing it and cutting it off. Strategically, the AI tends to play a pretty predictable game too, and doesn't usually take advantage of the alt-historical possibilities embodied in some of the Decision Events. Its naval game is particularly weak, IMO.

Once you've tried the AI a few times, I'd be happy to have a bout with you. I consider myself medium-to-good player with lots of experience. Send me a PM if/when you are interested.

Thank you, sir. I'm a ww2 junky... my man cave is full of ww2 models and figures and books up the yin yang. WW2 always reminded me of another favorite past time of mine: Lord of the Rings, but only a reality version. Only started battling humans year ago and it's hard to have the same fun against A.I.... so happy and grateful to be on board. On the surface, you can ease into this game as the mechanics are straight forward, but the nuances are readily apparent immediately... thanks again.

Definitely will... just getting few rounds in now and trying to navigate to interface. I'll do one campaign from start to finish, and then I should have cut my teeth enough to not get stomped out too easily. Looking forward to a battle... I really enjoy ATG and am studying out WiTE-- which should take some time just to digest the manual, but an easy entry that offers nuance as you progress is nice right about now. After a day of 3 little ones on top of work, this is perfect ATM... thanks again, sir.

My experience has been that if you put up an open challenge, it gets picked up very quickly.

Awesome thanks... been playing since yest (in between work-- I'm a bad boy) and getting the hang of it. It's kinda cool how little nuances are popping up in what appears a "simple" game. Liking it so far... still trying to gauge battle. It seems like the battle odds are indicators and that you mostly suffer at least 1 wound, unless the defender is near destroyed. Given that you lose 10% exp with every point to replenish your force, I'm trying to see the path to not wasting my forces. But was a good read of the manual and looking to battle soon. Thanks.

Very cool. ATG is a passion of mine but the games have entered a lull ATM... looking forward to this game a lot. It a bit different than ATG, but has plenty of goodies that ATG doesn't offer. So, I'll enjoy playing and battling in both... thanks again.
