A mix of Graphics changes that lean the map toward looking a bit more like an old school boardgame, and brightening it up a bit.

Go here for installation instructions: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4300169

Some of the splotchy new school graphics were either left as is or lightened or colored a little. The hex side rivers are awesome, but they are blued up a bit. Forts, cities, towns all changed to a simpler style.

Hi

I like the direction you're taking this in, and wonder if it might work better if the brightness is turned down slightly, especially in the desert?

For the desert, I initially tried a tan from AH's Operation Crusader, but it didn't look very good. So then I went to AH's Third Reich, as seen below, but it was definitely too bright. So I toned it down a bit, but I can see where it still may appear too bright, and the same for the clear terrain green. I'm up to 1943 in my current game playing with these graphics and I'm used to it, but I will consider changing them further, especially if others feel they are too bright.

I tend to like bright, but for my own personal taste this is a little too bright.

Thanks Richard ! [I assume you mean the SC3 screenshots, and not the 3R screenshot].

Edit: Ok, I adjusted the brightness for the green clear hexes and also for the desert hexes, and updated the link to Post #1.

Yes, I did mean the SC3 screenshots. The 3R screenshot is really, really bright!

Where do these files go? I love the work just having a bit of trouble finding where to put them. Thanks!

Hi - Sorry, I did not include installation instructions in the first post, I should know better. Go here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4300169
It may seem daunting, but its not, it just takes a few steps. Let me know if you have any trouble, thanks.

Thank you for the response. I did eventually get it installed this afternoon after reading the post you suggested. I think the thing that was confusing was the images didn't match those in the posts. Eventually I figured there must be hidden files and copied the files anyway. Sure enough even though I didn't see them there were 19 files it was asking me about replacing. Works like a charm now and my eyes thank you!

I may not be crazy about this particular set of graphics, but I applaud the work. I think the modding community does a great service for us gamers, and I encourage any and all mods.

I Like your the bright mod. I tested it with my saves and weather changes show up well. I was using another board game mod and I could not tell the difference between forest and swamp. Explains somethings! The one thing I did notice is that the Norwegian Sea is a different shade of blue. Not sure why since the Barents and Whites Sea is fine. The contrast between ocean and ocean traversed is hard to tell. That other blue would be a better contrast. The rough seas and sandstorms look good.

Thanks Jack !

I suppose you are referring to what is seen in this screen shot. I am glad you see it too, I thought I was going crazy. I have no idea why it is like this. I don't know what I might have done to cause it to look this way

It seems to work fine on spring turns, only. Maybe weather areas 21 and 18 are mixed up. I note the White Sea never froze over even though the convoy route closes in winter The color looks the same as the frozen Hudson Bay.

I have been perplexed with your Norwegian Sea problem. I have been looking at the title_sprites files and noticed the lighter blue color matches the files; title_sprites_mud_xxx.png or title_sprites_frozen_xxx.png (see picture). These are files that you did not change. The game program may be incorrectly referring to one of the above files. This did not seem to be a problem in the original program, since the original title_sprites files use the same color blue. This could be fixed, from your end, by changing the plain blue hexes in the frozen or mud sprites (just the plain sea hexes need be done). At least that is my guess, conceding I know little or nothing about modeling and programing. I have tried all the board mods and still like this the best. If too bright you can always dim the monitor a bit.

Whatever it is, it does correspond to the Norwegian Sea Weather Zone. I can't follow your diagnosis, though. All of the blues are the same through the tile_sprites, frozen, mud and zoom files. And these are the same as the blues in the stock files

The blue I downloaded from you is is darker (brighter) that the original stock files. The file I unzipped from you did not have the frozen or mud sprites, so the lighter original sprites seem to be referenced in the Norwegian Sea (why I have no idea). I checked other mods and the stock title sprites and all seem to have the same color blue for all sprites, except for ice.

Ok. Just thought of a way to figure this out. One of the map mods uses a very light blue for the title_sprites_frozen_xxxx.png. I just copied this file to the Bitmaps folder. I ran the game during a fall turn and the Norwegian Sea is a very light blue in contrast to the dark blue seen every where else. The Arctic also uses this light blue. Checked a Spring turn and everything except the Arctic is dark blue. You have done nothing wrong. The wrong title sprite must be miss-referenced in the programs code.

Jack made a modification to the Frozen file and sent it to me. It seems to fix the problem. I had previously tried putting the stock Frozen file into the 653R mod with no result, and the Frozen file was not changed for the 653R mod, so I have no idea what is going on, but it is fixed so that is all that matters. Thanks very much, Jack !
