I don't know if this was previously discussed. If so, i apologize.
But... what's the point to know how many units have the enemy?
I guess that in RL the HC never know how many units had the other side... So, what's the point in the game?
Of course, this information is very important. And, if we think about the Russians... it's crucial!
As German you can "know" if the East War is going well or not just looking at this report...
Just a question! :)
Greetings,

I agree, in former games reports only showed visible units. If one wants to know the real strength of the enemy, he should do recon imho.

From memory the setup for this went back and forth a few times with the majority eventually leaning towards showing the relative strengths for all sides, all the time, despite FoW.

One argument I recall was that there was not much point in the reports section, or that it was misleading, if it only showed a partial report on enemy numbers.

An item we do keep hidden though is the number of transports as that would give away too much information such as an upcoming amphibious assault.

I see... Well, just my two cents on this.
If i know how many units has Russia i can "easily" know the "lenght" of the reserves behing the frontline.
But, just my opinion.
It's like those people who think that made pocket is useless... On the other hand i try to make pockets everytime (which is funny to me than advance straight ahead).
Different ways of playing, i guess... :)

I've wondered what this report shows - is it literally a count of the number of units of a given type that a country has?

If so then that's only of limited use because you don't know whether a land unit is a garrison or a heavy tank, or you don't know if a sea unit is a 3-strength destroyer with no tech or whether it's a carrier with a full round of Advanced Aircraft....

(I always assumed it was strength and value related not just numbers!)

It`s strategically valuable, no matter the kind of unit. If Russia has left less than 30 units, Axis will know they can easily strip the eastern front in case of an invasion p.e.

If this information somehow would be related to lvl of Int., it would be more realistic. But the elder mechanic was working well, you only knew the numbers of units that were visible, if you wanted to know more you had to to do recon - just like in real war.

I'm completely agree.
In my game with Crispy131313 i KNOW that he has less than 85 units at the beginning of my turn.
If i "see" about 50 - 60 units... i really know that his reserves are rare (and probably in a bad condition). Of course along the war you can "feel" that soviets are under pressure... but with this kind of report... YOU KNOW IT!!! :)
In my opinion is too much info!

I'm wondering if this unit count includes those in the build Q?

Anyone know for sure? It could be modeled.

Yeah, I can see this being irritating in multiplayer!

It only tracks actual units on the map and not in the Production Queue.
