Hey guys,

So I was playing "Reds" from CW, and I decided to do a strike to mobile SAMs (vehicles) using the Land-Attack Standard Missile 4. The missiles have good range and are pretty fast, specially during the dive. Problem is that they do very little damage and and usually air-burst over the target. Is this how the SM-4 was supposed to work?

I did a test run in the editor and shot some unarmored trucks, and the missiles were very inefficient at destroying them (needed at least 4, sometimes 8 missiles to kill 1 squad of 4 truck).

Any chance we could see a little buff to them? Right now they are more useful as a decoy/wasting enemy SAM than anything else.

Thanks,
Zoro.

Savegame?

Database version?

Game version?

Impossible to look into the issue and provide an answer otherwise.

Thanks

Zoro you do understand that you used one missile on a target type that uses four dispersed aim points?

Sorry about the delay. I didn't provide any save file and posted this in the general discussion since I thought this was a feature of that missiles type. My intension was just to get a discussion about this weapon.

On to the specific case.

I don't have the save game from my play through of the Reds scenario, but I did create a small and simple test scenario. I noticed this during the 1.12v (DB467) of the game and also during my test scenario, using 1.13 (B972.2) and DB469.

@Mike, I understood that after I did my test scenario. The weapon works like the Mavericks. Thing is, in the DB(469) it says the missile does 21.7 DP with a 62 KG blast-frag warhead, which should do considerable damage to an unarmored target, imo.

Did some further testing and the missiles do work. They just seem a bit unpredictable. Sometimes with can wipe out multiple vehicles with a single shot, others they do nothing.

A single missile did all that. On the other hand, the Buk by its side was unharmed

Yeah the launchers are dispersed within the 'Dispersal Radius' of the facility. The number of kills you achieve per missile depend on where the weapon hits relative to the position of the vehicles, the pattern size (A x B meters), the type of cluster munitions, and whether or not you actually score good hits.

You can tell from the above log that two LASMs scored great hits, delivering nice showers of submunitions, while one missed the intended target by 47ft. However, it should be noted that, while the weapon evaluates a hit against the intended target vehicle, the submunitions may still damage other, nearby vehicles as well. Thus, multiple kills with one warhead.

Complex stuff, yummy!

Didn't know game took into account where the warhead exploded in relation to the vehicles in a platoon. Very complex!
Thanks for the info.
