Hi,

Is there a way to set air group formation manually?

Here is what I tried:
Select group -> F4 (Formation editor) -> Select a/c in the list -> Set station (relative/fixed) -> Click on the desired location relative to the lead. But nothing happens.

It works with ships/submarines but has no visible effect on air groups.

That would be cool. I for one would like a method that merged air groups together instead of having them spread out all over the place because of runway limitations on takeoff, et al.

I use relative reference point linked to a leader or to a defended aircraft and patrol mission to this point. This suitable to group a pair or for a special mission like offensive ECM.

Yeah, I know about relative ref points. I use them for ecm and asw missions too. However it is not a good way to set flight formation of every air group: it's inconvenient to make a RP and a mission for every single craft of the group. Imagine a strike mission where only lead is assigned to a strike missin. All other crafts are at support missions at relative RPs around the lead craft to enforce a given formation.

I agree. This approach has limited application. ECM or intercept missions, not strike missions.
