How do I accept a challenge if a password is required? Do I have to contact the player who posted the challenge? Is there an in-game messaging system? Or just email?

I'm not fully understanding how the new online play is supposed to proceed. Is there a thread already posted on it? Or could someone give me a walk-through here?

Thanks.

That's what I would do. Usually a player only puts a password on a challenge for a player he already has in mind.
You would create the challenge with a specific password then send the password to your potential opponent then
HE would have the password to accept the challenge. That's how it's supposed to work.

There's a Diplomatic pouch which is just a short briefing window you fill in with your verbage then click the
okay button and it's presented to your opponent when he starts his turn.

That's a great idea. Lemme see what I can put together. A workshop on getting online.

When you've done your moves for your PBEM++ game just before it closes you're presented
with a Diplomatic Pouch in which you can send messages to your opponent. Good natured
verbal jabs maybe.

And now about the Challenges. Let's get the obvious out of the way.

I'm then presented with all my waiting turns. Sorry Spicey, I'll be done here in about an hour.

But you might have to navigate to the "Challenges" tab to start a game. Or maybe you've heard
from your opponent already and have the password ( if there is one ) and so you might navigate
to the "Accept Challenges" tab where you'll see something different.

And here's the "accept challenge" tab and you can see that some of the challenges have passwords on them.
That's because the challenger probably has a specific person in mind for an opponent. But there are
challenges without a password too. There's a list of the Challenger's name and the game and the side HE
will be playing and all you need to do is click on the accept challenge button to get started.

Specify the scenario you want to play and the side YOU want to play
and click on the PLAY button to create your challenge.

You'll be presented with the chance to enter a password
for your challenge if you want to.

EDIT: I just now noticed that when you dismiss the password dialog with the cancel
button that cancels the entire Challenge process and you have to start over. So just
don't enter a password and click the play button if you don't want a password.

Thanks for the guide, not a big PBEM player these days but might come in handy.

Curious, do people still use the old-school PBEM method, using for instance PBEM Helper, or have they gone over to dropbox accounts and/or services like this?
PBEM Helper has not been updated for over a decade, but should still work, as long as people know what SMTP is and how to set it up

I remember good times back in 2000 playing GG's WiR over PBEM, one round a day was all we could manage because of time zones, I think it took 5-6 months to complete a campaign
