Hey, start English Jets over Uganda and assign at least one Lightning and AEW to an arbitrary AAW Patrol. As soon as they AEW turns its radar on, it will detect unidentified contacts down in Tanzania and the Lightning will fly to investigate. So far, this is all working as intended. However, when the Lightning gets to the contact, it will stay at 36,000 ft and fail to identify the contact, which is flying at "XXX" altitude (14,000 ft, I think). In other words, it’s flying too high to ID the target and (presumably) because the altitude is unknown (the AEW uses a 2D radar), the fighter is fully dumbstruck when it arrives at its destination and finds no contact. Another complicating factor appears to be a cloud layer, which the contact is flying inside that stops the Lightning from independently spotting it. I would think that the Lightning should automatically start searching at other altitudes until it finds the contact, instead of circling around it like a fool stuck in a toilet drain, with AFTERBURNER until it goes BINGO! In fact, Afterburner to identify a contact moving at 100 knots seems irrational to begin with, as opposed to joining at 100 knots. The issue in this thread is somewhat related to my request for proper manual “investigate” and “ignore” commands in another thread. Also, I have a save to demonstrate this problem, but I'm not sure how to upload it. Either way, I think it's 100% reproducible. Just start the scenario, slap down 4 reference points anywhere, create an AAW patrol and assign the 4 Lightnings and 4 AEWs. Time compress until they are in the air and enjoy the show. Thanks!
