As I continue to study/review the great AAR, War Room, etc. suggestions, etc. (and myself having a limited knowledge of historical specifics) this question arises:

Do the units (ground & air) starting positions in the WITW Campaigns & Scenarios suppose to reflect historical accuracy?

The reason I ask:

A few AAR & War Room posted recommendations related to the starting positions of certain air units in and around North Africa should be relocated to England. All of the reasons given make a lot of sense to me; but, I'm just a novice.
I began to wonder if the AAR suggestions are ONLY meant as a suggested strategy versus being historically accurate.

So, I'm only attempting to clarify if the game's starting positions for units are suppose to be historically accurate.

Thanks, for any comment.

Bob

My interpretation is you are presented with as accurate a rendition of the world before the game starts as possible. What you do then is up to you.

Be careful with some of the older AARs. Things have changed and what worked well with the release game don't now. As an eg, I now wouldn't move all those coastal planes spread out along N Africa. You need them running auto air patrols to avoid heavy shipping losses.

There's then the ill defined aspect of game abuse. As an eg, you can move a lot of the WA tactical bombers to the Med once you have Sardinia. In its favour, you can build up experience, add to the misery of the Germans and redeploy back to the UK so they are well rested for 1944. But the allies didn't do this and left them training etc in the UK.

edit

Having said that, everyone will do a massive air OOB re-assignment on T1. Basically to get it into a shape that makes sense to you in turn makes it a lot easier to construct air directives. So I tend to put all the WA NFs into Bomber Command. In a PBEM I might keep a couple back as UK defense. With the Axis I put everything into either geographical or role orientated commands.
