Playing a PBEM game.

Both players have combat animations checked.

The pwae001.pws file gets created for the Japanese player and the combat animations runs normally for the Japanese player.

The Allied player does not see the animations run.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Have you set a delay for your combat animations? If you leave it at 0, they game will skip the animations. I set my Naval to Naval and related Naval or ASE to 1.1 or 1.5 seconds. Bombardments, land combats and air combat I leave at 0 because I do not care to micromanage these aspects of the game (but you can learn good info by watching them). Go to the Preferences section to change the delay. S/B second button from the left at the top of the game screen. I don't think your delay preferences affect your opponents settings.

Check your settings in the in-game menu prior to loading the saved game file.

We both have the animations "on" setting. For some reason, my opponent (player 2, Allied side) seems to reset to no animation upon loading a new turn.

We had the same issue with the last game we played, only I was Allied side -- never saw animations.

The Japanese player has to set ON first, and then when the Allied player gets the turn he also turns his "ON" while working the turn (IIRC). But you didn't say anything about whether you checked your delay settings. No delay set = no animation even if the switch is ON.

Check the settings in your game main screen, NOT inside the turn file. So before you load the saved game.
