For the countries using a yellow center background color, how do you differentiate tanks vs heavy tanks?

USSR heavy tanks will look like on the pic below. (From the opening of campaign "1944 D-Day to Berlin".)
Admittedly a bit tricky to distinguish from the "medium" tank that can also be seen.

Not sure where my affection for mustard colored Russians come from.
Probably from Squad Leader...

That question (about the tanks) was mostly directed to Mark R's high contrast. It doesn't apply (except slightly to the Soviets) for your base mod.

If you ever decide to seperate out the planes (or make an alternate ship version that looks closer to the stock nato naval counters) please let me know. It would be much appreciated

Would it be possible to get a planes only version of this mod? Perhaps with game original countries' background color?

The counters look great, but for me I'm not a fan of certain changes (specialty INF (ENG, SEC et...) but particularly the ships.

Are you pulling my leg?
The naval units are my favorites!!!
My initial idea for the Bleached Map was actually to accentuate them!

Would you prefer alternative naval units looking something like the pic below?
But with vanilla counter colors for better contrast?

I like & am not planning to adjust SIPRES's ENG & SEC unit symbols however.
Basically because the Engineer units effectively are construction workers (i.e. civilians) rather than combat engineers.
And Garrisons units are often used as security forces to prevent partisan activities.

Yes, exactly. I suppose an internal transparent box around the silhouette or below it would be a compromise.

I do like them, but would also be more inclined (as in 'very') to overlook them without seeing a full square counter. Particularly at the larger scale map view.

The Paras, SEC and Engineers I could learn to live with. However, I disagree about them being 'civilian'. They have better combat values than Corps almost as good as an Army.

I played a lot of World in Flames, so have grown accustomed to those nato counters. Partly why I like the downward facing E for engineers and the elongated m for paratroopers (as per the core and the high contrast variant). I'm also used to different looking Gar; But those are just my preferences I can easily learn to live without. The ships, however, I know I would overlook.

And like I said before, I would also be estatic with a planes only version that matched the core colors.

DO NOT go out of your way to just accomodate me.

No worries!
I’m not in the habit of going out of my way just to accommodate taxmen anyway…

Your suggested alternative naval counters are interesting, and probably easier to play with, so I can promise you those as alternatives.
Just don’t sit up & wait for them cause I’m probably talking weeks.
The naval counters will be slightly bigger than the ground unit counters.
I want to avoid multiple background colors, so no squares.

As an ex Europa Series guy myself I know exactly what you mean with the NATO symbols for paras & engineers.
I really like SIPRES’s artistic renderings however and I think they work well with his beautiful Special Forces & Shock Armies so I’m not planning to change para or engineer symbols. Sorry!

Also, no promises on vanilla color alternatives.
But maybe somewhere down the line based on demand.

I had no idea that Engineers are so powerful, so thanks for the heads-up!

Zoomed-out view:

Creating alternative naval units for all nations & tech levels will however require significantly more work than I initially assumed...

And I'd like to spend some time on gaming now so I really cannot tell when they will be made.

Cool! We had all Europa Series titles between three guys & pretty serious plans about trying to combine them.
Luckily that never happened or we'd probably be somewhere around mid 1940 by now...

Thanks!

Meanwhile, you might wanna try your hand at making some of the adjustments you prefer.
It's quite fun and not that hard.
But a bit tedious...

Veteran modders have provided gems of generous advice in various threads around this forum.
Freeware such as "paint.net" (intuitive & easy to use) & "Incscape" (steeper learning curve but good for vector graphics) will enable you to do all the graphical editing you'll ever need.

I'd be starting from ground zero, and really don't have the time to invest in it.

Really good job PHalen
Its nice to see you improve and keep alive this counter Mod.

Thx for that.

Maybe for heavy tank you could use this Nato symbol

A sample of SIPRES “Unit activation sprite mini mod” - that I recommend - can also be seen on the Romanian unit in this pic.

Where exactly should one go to find the mini-mod? There doesn't seem to be a download link anywhere that I can see.

Thanks for encouragement & the heavy tank SIPRES!
Your mod is very much alive.
And has given birth to offsprings!
A testament to how good your initial concept was.

Love your ship silhouettes and using your NATO counters.

Made a few changes to the counters and added Cyrillic alphabet to soviets for my WWIII1946 Mod.

@ ivanov: Glad you like the FWII NATO Counters!
(Although I hope you’re exaggerating a bit...)

Note that SIPRES created their basic design. I basically just added the air & naval silhouettes.

Also note that the pic in my initial post shows a combination of several mods. (E.g. the ”Historical Flag mod” by Philippeatbay.)
That’s the beauty & cool thing about this forum!

Close. My suggestion (and I have no idea if it is possible) would be a smaller box just around the white '10', not a complete stripe across the lower quarter.

Hi Guys,

I've been looking at this thread and I think that I may already have what you are looking for.
I called it a Higher Contrast Strength Value and made it part of my Hybrid Counter set.

You can see the results in post 107 of this thread http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4214416&mpage=4&key=

The attached file below just needs to be placed in the Bitmaps folder to give the desired effect.
I hope you find it of use.

Good luck on your counter project. It's looking good.

Cheers,

Angus

Thanks HimAgain!
Much appreciated!

Your shaded strength value indicators will make the FWII NATO Counters look like on this pic.
I'll stick a pointer to your post #54 into my initial post for people who prefer the increased contrast.

Good luck with your cool Hybrid Counters!
That I can hardly imagine how much work you must have put into...

Updated version 1.4 is now available in my initial post.
Version 1.4 feature some adjusted unit facings, and slightly larger silhouettes on Transport, AV and AVL units. Thanks SIPRES for sharing their svg files!

Just curious why I see "Major Power 6" in my game bitmaps but don't see an analogous folder in the zipped download of your 1.4

TIA

Hey Happycat,
That's because Major Power 6 isn't actually used in SC3 WWII War in Europe. I suppose bitmap folder "Major_06" has been prepared for some future SC3 release. Perhaps for Japan or China in a future Pacific version? So I didn't include any "Major_06" folder in my zipped file.

That makes sense---hopefully this will expand into a global game at some point. Personally, I really enjoy Pacific Theater for the naval ops.

Thanks,
