I've noticed that in TOAW IV (compared to TOAW III), I can no longer see the enemy's overall health at a glance? For example, if you hit "C" over an enemy stack, you have to hover over each individual unit to see its overall health.

Was this done on purpose? I understand that it remains hidden when you don't have intelligence on the enemy, but it should display in the enemy group composition once you have achieved this. Especially since you can view it by hovering over each unit. Also, I seem to remember it displayed the enemy's health on the map as well?

I'm finding it harder to exploit the enemy's weak spots in the line without a simple way to look at everything. Often, assuming they are stronger in places where they really aren't.

Hmmm i don't see the difference here with TOAW III, where also the only way to see the health icon for the enemy is in the unit panel. The thing is changed (for the worst) in IV with the stack view is that you no longer see the cooperation flags.

I uninstalled TOAW III, but I seem to remember you could see the enemy's health in the stack view and on the map (where appropriate). Maybe I'm wrong, been a while.

Understandable. I had to check it because I did not remember, fortunately I have it installed.

But you are right anyway, no need to hide the health icon in the map when you could see it in the unit panel. Don't know what are the programming challenges that this would require to change it, but I would put it in the wish list.

Thanks for checking that out. I don't know what I was thinking of then. Anyways, would certainly be helpful.

Perfect intelligence about the other guy. Remarkable.

Agree totally.

No way should you be able to get such precise info.

If it is the case then it should be single player only so people can choose to look or not.

I always would take the 'detailed' information about the enemy's unit status with a pinch of salt, especially when FOW is turned on.

Easiest way to check the accuracy - Play the scenario H2H.

Not sure what you mean by this? You don't always have such precise info on the enemy. Usually, it takes sending a recon unit near the enemy formation or putting a unit on a peak, etc. to get such information. In my opinion, this is pretty realistic and works well. I'm just saying if you can see this information in the unit panel, why not show it on the group composition screen and map? I've been playing this game since COW, so I understand it probably just wasn't in the original design.

I am querying the concept of exact info on enemy units however close your units are to them. If with FOW on then the info shown is not always accurate as the Oberst states then I am happy with that. Reality shows it was common for supposedly poor troops to perform way beyond expectations and visa versa so although knowing rough numbers is okay with me, exact statistics is not.

War is a very inexact science.

No one was asking about more info on the enemy, just that if the health icon is displayed on the unit panel, there's no reason to hide it on the map/stack view.
I don't think that making it harder to see an info already available on the unit panel could be considered a FOW setting.

Yes. And I meant it should not even be visible at all. And suggesting that the mistake lies in it being visible in the unit panel and not seeing it in the map/stack view is correct. That's all.

See, we are all in agreement here
