Just wondering if the game retains the movement plotting mechanics of the original.
I found that very annoying and clunky.

Actually I found that to be one of the most appealing aspects of the game.
Played War in Russia for years back in the DOS days.
Have been addicted to WITPAE for the past 6-8 years and only just got around to buying this game in the Christmas sale.
Perusing a few AARs now as I wade through the manual.

I was also a beta tester for Panther games Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge, but prefer strategic and grand strategic games to tactical ones.

Welcome Hans!

I know you're a predominately AI player like I am. I've played all the Road 2 scenarios too many times to count. I will always refer to AE as my main game but I believe you'll find the interface much more enjoyable than WITP-AE. The road to scenarios are a blast for my money. I'd add ,the add ons are well worth the cake if you have the money to spare.

From my experience the AI defends Lenningrad much better in the full scenarios than in the Road 2 but it's still fun.

Glad to see you aboard, have a great time!

It still is helpful to new players like me, thank you very much for creating this AAR. :)

I've played Strategic Command, Panzer Corp (General), and Commanders type games extensively. This game seems a little too intense for me. Is that reasonable.

It is a easy game to get into but a hard game to master if that makes any sense. With that being said the community is very helpful, the forum is active and there are so many AARs to learn from. I will guarantee you that you will fall in love with it though. The amount of detail in the game is mind blowing.

Cheeer,
Xhoel

Thank you for the response.

I've considered it for a while given the great reviews.

Does it ever go on sale?

Yeah it does. I got both War in the West and War in the East on sale, one on the Matrix page and the other one on Steam. Just take a look on steam around Halloween, they have stuff on sale during that time, maybe you will get lucky. Other than that, just check the forums so you know when the game goes on sale. I can PM you if I see it and let you know ;)

Also look for boxed versions on online retailers like Amazon, I saw wite for 10$ there Once.
If you have the choice always buy at matrix games
-Matrixgames does not have to pay provision=more money for the developement of New games
-you are not forced to update to the newest version by steam
-you can register your game on Steam when buying at matrixgames

Last questions

1) Is it easy to find a serious game on PBEM.

2) Is the game balanced?

Your help is greatly appreciated

I prefer Steam because it automatically updates. If it goes on sale I'll give it a go.

thanks again

1) Most people here prefer server games (basically pbem over the Slitherine server, you can't reload a save undetected), but some still play PbeM.
2) Balance is of course permanent subject to debate but overall yes, game settings and house rules allow a wide range of adjustements.

The point about buying at Matrix (or boxed versions from retailers) is you get the Matrix version AND can register your game at Steam for free.
Automatic updates might be nice but there are cases where you want to keep a certain version (or multiple installs with different versions) for ongoing games.

If you buy at Steam you only have the Steam version.

But you can play PBEM through slithrine server with a steam version?
