1942 January 02 INVADED Amphibious TF 145 offshore of Biak Amphibious TF 20 offshore of Salamaua Clark Field, Cagayan, Kuala Lumpur, Kukong, are also invested. CHANGED OWNERSHIP Tandjoengbalai is occupied by the Japanese Japanese forces CAPTURE Wenchow !!! Japanese forces CAPTURE Pakhoi !!! Japanese forces CAPTURE Cape Gloucester !!! Overall • The Imperial subs are still very comfortable playing with our destroyers although more and more of the encounters are ASW attack rather than Sub attack. • At Clark Field and Singapore our flak seems to be destroying about 7 or 8% of attacking aircraft. • Search contact with an undetermined number of IJN fleet carriers near Lae. West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii • Multiple subs still present off the West Coast and Hawaii, some now in TF's of 2. • Routing of merchants and tankers is still going without further loss or even contact with IJN subs. Still an active project. Pacific • More of the same. Canton Island is receiving supply and just received enough PBY's to fill out the search group. New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain • Five subs dispatched to the defense of Australia are passing through the Santa Cruz Islands and are being sent straight to patrol areas in the Solomon Sea. Maybe one of them can hit a carrier. • The two PBY-4 squadrons at Cairns have moved to Darwin to continue airlift duties there. Philippines • Slow consumption continues. DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya • The ARD's from Java are all at sea. Let's hope they fare better than Dewey Dry Dock. • Enemy carriers no longer seen. With so many subs nipping at their heels they might have moved abruptly to break contact. China • Disaster at Wenchow. quote:
