If I take one of the scenarios that comes with the game and change the masterfile to newdawn3, is there any problem with that? I did it and it seems to work, but I got some error messages on the loading screen when the game does all the supply calculations, so wanted to make sure there wasn’t any back room wonkines.

I don't think it will work completely. It might actually be easier with a rebuild (especially if you want the new tileset graphics). But Vic should be able to tell more comprehensively what is going to be wonky.. it is after all his masterfile. :)

Mostly I just want to be able to use the TOE system on some of the old maps (the French-Arab even steven map in particular).

What a does a rebuild entail?

Enabling the TO&E is probably easier than importing the masterfile. Want me to do it? PM me, and I'll let you know my super secret and fast replying email :P

Actually, been some time since I worked in that part of the editor, might slow me down some...

I can try and put up a tutorial, soon though :)

Alright,

Did some testing, got it right the first time, so, this is what you need to do.

1). Disconnect masterfile (go to masterfile under settings, and click it, then cancel.)

2). Change the SystemGfxOverrule to newdawnmodgraphics (this will enable the Nato symbols)

3). go to the rulevars, select the lowest group of them (Direct Prod, Autoreinforce, officerpool) and change the following to these values:

Rulevar 339 = 250 (same as supply radius)
Rulevar 340 = 3 (use all types of transcap available, that is rail, land and sea).
Rulevar 910 = 1
Rulevar 911 = 1
Rulevar 912 = 1

(these last 3 are up to debate on how much you want them to be, or how little).

4). go to a different section in the rulevars, select the one called Enable/Disable features. Change the following to these values:

Rulevar 531 = 1 (so you can change already assigned TO&Es)
Rulevar 532 = 1 (so you can make your own).

5). Almost done. Go into the SFT part of the editor, and confirm that every SFT that can be upgraded to a higher version has the lower versions Reinforcement type. I checked for 2 scenarios, and they seem to already have been set, but just make sure. If not, then Rifle I and Rifle II will need to be mentioned specifically in each formation you build for instance.

6). Save, and your done.

7). If really nice, upload to scenario bank :)

Wow, thanks for the fast and comprehensive reply!

I got everything working except the NATO graphics. They pop in the TOE model designer, but they don’t get selected or appear on the units. I changed the SystemGfxOverrule as directed, tried it twice but no go. Did I miss a step, or is there something else to it?

*Should also mentioN that the text for the models doesn’t function either (the letters that can be displayed at the top of the counter dont show up), so maybe it isn’t the NATO graphics.

**Also, should rulevar 337 (Use Auto Reinforce) be set to 1?

Hi yes of course rulevar 337 should be set too, sorry, didn't test autoreinforce.

Is this the first time you've played with TO&E?

If so, you will find you need to assign the models you make in the TO&E editor to the units you want to use them. They don't just pop up automatically on units that match the model.

Yeah, I’ve played with TOE a bunch (and in fact have become rather reliant on it, which is why I wanted to add it on hehe).

So two symptoms:

1) In the model designer itself, when I select the NATO symbol or put in text, it doesn’t appear on the counter in the designer (though it does appear next to the name in the list of units in the designer).

2) When I go to change a unit’s model, the change is effected (e.g. says 1st Rifle or whatever on the unit), but no NATO symbol pops up; the unit just sticks with it’s normal generic picture model.

I think I know why...

You might need to change the SystemGfxOverrule to newdawnmodgraphics/natocounters

And if that doesn't work, try using \ instead of /

Just had a quick peak.

It's rulevar 344, I forgot about it. It should be switched on

That was it! Thank you much ernieschwitz.

I can most certainly add it to the scenario bank, though I’m going to ask for permission first since it’s not my scenario.
