Is there any way to increase the size of the unit list? I can barely read it when playing on a TV monitor with 1920x1080.

The Unit List is perfectly visible on the same monitor when playing the old Campaign series. Here's a side by side screen clip taken when both games are up to show what I mean. Is there some simple adjustment I'm mot making?

Thanks!

Are you playing JTCS under a lower resolution? Unit lists are the same width in both games.

That must be the difference. Next question: how do I check/change the screen resolution? Is there an .ini file I've not seen?

Thanks!

No, not as such. There are apps for changing the screen resolution while launching a game, but you're not doing that are you. Check your shortcut settings in any case?

Sorry, need to log off now, getting late in these parts of world...

Thanks for your help. I checked the shortcuts for both games, there are no switches there. Also, is it even possible to run two games simultaneously when each is at a different screen resolution? Honestly I don't even know but seems doubtful. In the screenshot above you can see both games are running concurrently - it wasn't a cut and paste job.

Tim,

what is your system/desktop resolution? As for running JTCS and CSME at the same time with a different resolution... I doubt it. Unless one uses 2 monitors, but I might be wrong.

It's 1920x1080. I'm definitely not using 2 monitors. Both games were running side by side.

The only thing I can think of, depends if you use Windows 7 or 10, is the scaling option or... you know, the magnifying glass (accessibility option in Windows).

I have Windows 10. Wouldn't the scaling option affect both games? My global settings are just the default ones.

So here's another, better example, this one taken on my laptop screen (1920x1080 resolution) when both JTCS and CSME are running simultaneously. The sizing difference in the unit info box is really substantial--I don't mean to be too aggressive in bringing this issue forward but it really makes a big difference in visibility to my old eyes. Note too that the size of the text difference in the info boxes is very marked. Any chance this can be fixed?

Thanks!

TJD, I don't know what's going on but the Unit lists and the unit compass roses there are of exact same size within the game. You have Windows 10 right? Somehow it must be the scaling options on each shortcut that result the W10 desktop scaling the other app to a visually larger size, while keeping the other one standard.

There aren't any scaling options on my shortcuts. I'm sure of this. Moreover, the two games are running concurrently, so any scaling differences, which I believe are global, would affect them both, right?

Well, essentially: yes. I have no idea what's the explanation behind this to be honest.

The unit list graphics file is 183px wide, so from the screenshot you posted, Middle East looks to be displayed at its proper size, while JTCS West Front for some reason is magnified to some 230 pixels of width

Note that I have both games installed on two different systems, and the scaling disparity is the same on both.

Can you identify the specific graphics files that are involved? Is tinkering here feasible?

So, while playing Middle East with the TV set as your display, maybe have the Desktop scaling ON?

Well, it is on, by default, on both the laptop and desktop.

From another forum, but related:

The 2nd link and how to use the scaling options in Windows 10.

Sorry, what I meant to say was set your Desktop -> Display Settings - Scale and Layout to say 125% while playing Middle East with your TV.

It won't resolve why the two are different size, but at least you can enjoy the larger fonts and graphics with ME too.

Fixed. So here's what I did. I went to the shortcut for the Campaign Series and under Compatibility I checked Override High DPI Scaling. I didn't think to do this initially because I didn't regard 1920x1080 as high resolution.

Now the Unit boxes are the same size! Thank you Oberst Klink for pointing me in the right direction with your links. And thanks also to Crossroads! Really appreciate it guys.

Addendum: while the unit boxes are of the same size now, the original issue of making them larger and more readable for old eyes hasn't been resolved. I tried using the Windows settings to scale things up globally, and while it works for some parts of the interface the unit info box appears fixed in size. Would like to see it larger at some point.

Anyway, thanks again for your help and attention, and I'll shut up now.

I'm blind as a bat without corrective lenses, but I do like the crispness of the graphics at 1920x1200. Definitely an improvement over the JTCS fuzzy stuff, which somehow bothered my eyes more. Of course, more options are good to have.

Hi.

I can confirm this issue. The unit list is way too small for comfortable reading. I'm playing at 3840x2160 on 40" TV (Windows 10 64bit, NVidia graphics card) and while the rest of game interface is properly scaled - menus etc., unit list has too small font. I was trying with scaling options but without positive result. Setting down resolution to lower one gives blurry image and even harder to read - not native resolution issue. It is not a game breaker but I would like to use unit list window. I have perfect eyesight BTW.

With reagards,
Bart

Sorry to hear this, all I can say it works on my W10 64bit Desktop. I select 125% scaling, and everything scales just beautifully. I don't have a 4K display though, but a HD. What I've seen in the various gaming fora just keep on trying using different values until you hit the one that works on your particular 4K setup?

This is good info, by the way, does anyone else have difficulty at times trying to select a unit when you left click on it? Clicking on the base doesn't work, you have to click on the little person.
Just a thought
