There are three days to go until Kingdom Come: Deliverance is released. The specs are now fixed and a problem that I was already aware of has been confirmed. Finally, I have found a game that I want for which my ageing CPU no longer quite cuts the mustard - perhaps???

I have upgraded the rest of my system over the years so my 16 GB ram and GTX 970 GPU meet the recommended specs and are well above minimum requirements, but I still have an I5-2320 CPU running at 3.0GHz, turboeing to 3.3GHz.

There are a couple of reasons why I wonder how much I should take Warhorse Studios' quoted specs at face value. I am puzzled as to why they quote an I5-2500K as the minimum spec processor. The "K" means that it is capable of being overclocked - but they don't specify that it must be overclocked. An I5-2500K running at it's base speed should be identical in performance as far as I am aware, to an I5-2500 without the "K", but the latter doesn't seem to meet the quoted minimum spec.

However, that still seems to leave my CPU underpowered by 0.3 GHz compared to the 3.3GHz (3.7GHz on turbo) of the quoted I5-2500K. It seems to be an open and shut case that the game requires that additional processor speed.

Except ... The quoted minimum AMD CPU is a Phenom II X4 940, and when I google that, I find that it's quoted speed is 3.00 GHz, the same as my I5-2320, but apparently without any turbo capability.

So my questions are, how reliable are these quoted specs liable to be? Is a 3.0 GHz Intel CPU really less capable than an equivalent 3.0 GHz AMD CPU? And, of course, would it be worth gambling that my system will run the game, or would I just be wasting my money?

My experience tells me that you should be able to run the game with your current CPU, although at lower settings... cry engine is a heavy engine.
I really can't see a reason why they have been so specific with the CPUs. Your CPU is from the same generation of the one required in the minimum specs.

Thanks VPaulus. That backs up my instinct, but it's good to get confirmation from someone who knows from the inside as it were.

I had already tried the Can You Run It software, but that just makes a straight comparison of my hardware with the quoted specs, tells me what I already knew, and sends me to Amazon's site to spend �1500 on a new PC in order to add a �40 game to my collection.

cpu and memory is just a guide, as 2 systems with the same spec can have totally different results, with one user having a clean profile and next to nothing loaded or taking resources and one game and nothing else loaded, then the other system can be used by a normal day to day user not a gamer, with everything he has or the pc can pre installed with loaded on startup and you find the system resources are halved on startup and day to day use lowing the overall resources free for the given game, nothing but a tree lover makes one user cut his cpu speed to half to save the planet and cut down the electric bill etc, has every power saving device on default, then wonders why his i7 super pc runs stone cold and his gpu red hot temps, as it's working twice as hard as it should, as it can't get the data faster enough etc etc

i could go on, but hopefully you get the point.

First try demo if available. If game performance has issues, turn down graphic settings, disconnect from Internet, turn off all the security software, and try again. As last resort, change processor to better if one is available for the mother board (take board's manual to the store and show it to staff).

One thing to keep in mind those are "supported" specs. Therefore if you buy and have problems with lesser than min specs. You might not get any support from them.

Also, I think they post those because they only want a certain level spec playing the game. If they post lower specs and someone plays it and it plays crappy, that person is going to complain and give it bad reviews. They'll post a review on Steam saying "I have the correct specs and it runs like a dog." And they certainly don't want that kind of review.

Just my opinion.
