It has been and remains a good war for Japan's Submarine Force:

I-193 AK Demodocus SUNK with 2TT near Albany
AK Khandalla hit by 1TT near Albany

I-207 TK Aristophanes 1TT Albany

I-188 LSM-374 SUNK near Carnavon

I-186 LST-916 SUNK near Diamond Harbor with 2TT


Pretty good shooting for just eight days so far...

The Air-to-Air result today is quite nice. A good chunk of these fighter losses occurred over Singers where Dan placed a Squadron of P-38 and P-51 on LRCAP over the base trying to stop my bombing of his ground units there. It didn't work out too well for the Allies.

Tomorrow will see a CAP Trap set on a scale never before tried. Over 700 Fighters are placed on CAP over Osaka. To do this, Japan seriously weakens Air Defense over Yokohoma and Tokyo. Eight new AA units arrive and will open up tomorrow. We hope to administer a serious sting here on may 11, 1945.

We are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nearly done. Chickenboy Maru or someone with a calculator see if you get the same number I do.

Did someone tell my opponent that bombing my aircraft/fighter industry might be a GOOD idea??? Gifu was plastered this round. No CAP during the morning but the B-24 ran into 125 angry Japanese Fighter pilots in the afternoon.

Status: offline 		Those ships you've been sinking are ... 1 point each? Doesn't do a whole lot to delay the ceremony in Tokyo Bay. But it's probably satisfying.

It would be funny if the Soviets were activated right on the last day.

Talk about forestry and trees? Happens all the time. Honestly every time time he goes on a long hike the entire AAR degenerates into "This Week in Horticulture". Odd thing is many of the readers of the ARR seem to have strong opinions about such stuff. Present company included. Frankly you might try a bit of "Maskirovka" yourself and start talking about steam trains every time you want to gin up your numbers and make Dan think something big is coming.

When I was small he used to take me to some of the rail yards in NYC where the last steam engines were used for moving and combing train cars in the yards. So I might be one of the few people in the United States that regularly saw working steam trains in regular service

It is only fitting that the carriers who started the war END IT.

North of Midway Island:
Five carriers spot the normal American pickets in an arc in the NE and SE. Orders are to attack anything spotted. These are strange orders since until yesterday they were supposed to not fly until safely past these pickets. It is not to reason why--RIGHT? Carriers Shokaku and Soryu contribute 21 Fighters and 29 Judy to a strike that kills yet another YMS that the Americans, seemingly, have in endless supply. No Japanese losses during the strike.

NW of Addu Atoll:
The original Flagship of Kido Butai, IJN Akagi, turns its bow into the wind for the last time and flings 15 Sam and 18 Jill at a carrier target near Addu. These planes are joined by another 16 Sams and George-4 as well as 4 more TB (Grace). Amazingly, the Japanese encounter no fighter opposition as they line-up for torpedo runs against an Allied carrier! It turns into a horrific day for HMS Arbiter as five TTs slam into the small carrier. It sinks with great loss of life. Japanese losses are just two Jill.

A weak but well heard BANZAI peels from the Indian Ocean.




That these two raids in the Northern Pacific and Indian Ocean are allowed at all is testiment to a fuel surplus throughout the Empire. How and why the Allies did nothing to stop the flow of oil will be a foremost question after the war.

In a worrisome development communications appear to be out with the Fleet HQ in Tokyo...

On the OTHER side of the spectrum, the Imperial Army collapses to an all-out assault but Allied Forces on the ancient capital of China. Peiping collapses under the weight of nearly a dozen enemy Infantry Divisions. The door flies open for the Allied advance into western Manchuria.

Noises begin to be heard of a possible Soviet entry into the war. Nothing can now be done to convince the Soviets to not enter the war (AV 7,200 and falling). It is just a matter of time.

The Imperial Army has failed.

May 7, 1945
Word reaches Minister Tojo of the Navy's request for an audience with the Emperor on the 9th. He rapidly recalls the three officers and they meet again in private. Though there are objections to moving the plan forward, there is little point. The Operation must be moved up to coincide with whatever plan Yamamoto is attempting. Tojo has tried to kill his number one opponent several times over the years but his loyal men and some old fashioned luck have kept him from death. NOT THIS TIME Tojo vows.

An idea springs to mind. He lifts the phone and makes several calls...

Newspapers in Tokyo publish:

Army Parade in Tokyo!

The parade will be May 9th (starting at 2pm) and it just happens to go by the Imperial Palace.

Yamamoto Isoroku spends the morning attending to business and then sees the paper's announcement of the Army parade. Typical ham-handed action by the Army. Yamamoto snorts, then bows his head, and prays.

The Japanese Heavy Cruisers have had liberty given to the sailors and nearly 2/3 of the crews have a GREAT time enjoying the 'pleasures' of Tokyo. Army observations, initially concerned of the warships presence, relax. Looks like a wild shore leave is in action! They don't happen to COUNT the sailors as they return to the their vessels. If they had, they might have noticed nearly 150 sailors AWOL from EACH ship. It becomes known that the TF shall be leaving for Fusan, KOREA on the evening of the 9th.

As the ships move away from the pier to refuel and re-provision on the afternoon of the 8th, the Army doesn't notice that they move to area of Tokyo Bay not usually used by the Navy. The ships carefully arrange themselves, drop anchor, and await orders for the action on the 9th. To their immense surprise Battlecruiser Ikoma (6 14" Guns) and Heavy Cruiser Hikari arrive from Yokohoma. Rear-Admiral Yatsushiro Sukeyo's pennant flies from the Ikoma. Yatsushiro's allegiance is to his Admiral and Naval Minister. He is privy to sealed orders that get delivered after docking. As he reads them, his hands begin to tremble. After a calming cup of tea, he requests all ships Captains to meet him in his Flag Quarters.

These additional warships also anchor in the same area of the harbor with their fellow warships. More sailors depart these ships as shore leave is granted to nearly 400 men. It is a 24 hour pass. After they depat, the gangways are raised and no one will leave be allowed to leave the ships. Rather strange considering all those sailors have to return at some point...

Allies need to do one or the other, but preferably both.

1. Stop Fuel and Oil to Honshu.
2. Destroy fighter,night fighter and engine production -- could have started since the taking of Luzon.

And another point:

The Deathstar for most of the game was not a victory point gathering machine.

Kudos to a great Japan! The Army didn't fail, but is being betrayed by Bureaucrats and Treasonous Dogs! Good thing there is a parade coming.

It is a beautiful dawn. Yamamoto spends several hours in his garden and writes his death poem. He dresses in his best Whites, plays some GO with his staff, straps on his family's Katana, and heads for his staff car. He has a meeting with the Emperor...
