The 7th Army fresh from the Finland front has arrived on the Riga front replacing and resetting the 3rd Army's positions.

The 8th Army is getting reorganized after becoming thoroughly mixed up with units from the 14th Army, North Army Group units, and some other units directly under Supreme Army command (need to reassign these units). Some air units have been moved to the main front but many units have been disbanded in order to save fuel. The 14th Army and units directly under North Army Group will remain in Finland to guard the cities and coast from any German attempt to sneak back into Finland. North Army Group will be detached from the main front and the 7th and 8th Armies will be reassigned to another Army Group.

In fact the entire Russian Army will soon be reorganized so Army Groups that command no Armies will be disbanded and units and manpower will be reassigned to other units if not disbanded (another major effort to save supplies). Some Armies will also be disbanded for the same reasons.

More Russian units disbanded in attempt to equal supply demand to supply supply...(I waited a long time to say that--availability would be a better word but I wanted supply).

Russian forces continue to force the Nazi Army out of the Russian motherland--we still have a long way to go in the south but in the North we have forced them out of Russian territory. Some units have entered Poland and this month some units entered GERMANY itself via sea. Soviet artillery is really hurting the Germans in many places as they are having problems with their supply lines being cut by partisans.

May 1945..... European mainland:

The combined British forces under the commands of Adair, Montgomery, Lumsden & Anderson have have halted (at least temporarily) their campaign in the Netherlands.
Losses (particularly infantry) have been enormous and a period of build-up is called for before another sustained attack can begin again. All forces will now dig in east of
Bremen and harass the Germans with artillery and air attacks. There appears to be little chance that the Germans will make a serious attack themselves in this area as the
terrain will hinder them like it has us. They (the Germans) have gained some ground on the Danish Peninsula but this by itself has proved costly for them, particularly in April
when sustained air attacks decimated their armour in that area.

Patton's amphibious assault east of Rostock continues to struggle. The Germans have committed vast amounts of artillery in an attempt to wipe out these forces and have
been partially successful, at least in preventing any Allied advances in the area. A port has been built near the HQ to aid Patton in his supply needs. US & British battleships
have been withdrawn for resupply from the area so this also will give the Germans a reprieve from the poundings they have received courtesy of these naval forces in
previous months. US air units have been making strenuous efforts to keep Patton's forward units supplied at least half adequately.

In Belgium and Northern France the US forces under General Clark continue to make some progress. Cologne has been captured and the German cities of Essen and
Dusseldorf are under threat. The German units in Dusseldorf in particular received a real pasting this month and they will have to do some serious reshuffling of units if
Dusseldorf is to remain in their hands next month. Further south in the Ardennes, Luxembourg is also under real threat from US Heavy tank & infantry units.

North Africa.....

Tunis in Tunisia is now the only significant location held by Axis forces (the Italians) in Northern Africa now. French
infantry and artillery with air support, is now bombarding the city with a small number of Commonwealth units cutting off
any possible escape by the Italians. British warships are bombarding the city from the coast.

The Mediterranean......

The combined British/ANZAC assault on Greece has made very rapid progress in the couple of months since the initial landings. British heavy armour is advancing up the
east coast into Yugoslavia and has now captured Dubrovnik. Sarajevo will be the next target for the British. Resistance from scattered Romanian infantry has been very
weak. In the center and eastern flanks of the advance are the combined Australian/New Zealand forces under the commands of McKay & Freyburg. The port city of
Alexandroupoli next to the Turkish border fell quickly and Sofia in Bulgaria will likely be the next target for the intrepid Anzacs. There were some small pockets of
resistance from the Romanians in these areas, particularly around the Maritsa river, but these were quickly smashed by heavy artillery.

All in all, it seems even with the comparative lack of progress in the west, the Nazi's days are numbered. The Russians have now captured their first German city and they
also look to be on the verge of surrounding vast numbers of Axis forces in the Dnieper river/Kirovograd/Oddessa pocket.

The Soviets recaptured Kirovograd and moved south of the city. The battle for Kirovograd was proceeded by a large air raid on the city which the German Air Force challenged to it's failure as Soviet Air units shot down 30 Fighter IV's Air Groups while losing only 15 fighter IV's Air Groups and one or two dive bomber and bomber Air Groups.

The Crimean Army suffered heavy casualties trying to advance out of Crimea. German units are cut off from supplies in the Big Swamp (forgot name) as all the roads have been cut by partisans. Soviet army plans to surround the Big Swamp and simply contain the German units in the swamp. In order to do this the 27th Army is moving westward north of the swamp. East of the swamp the Soviet plan on continue to move South from Kirovograd until we reach the Black Sea. If this surrounds large German and Axis forces so be it. If we surround any units east of Kirovograd we will reduce them first before we turn west and south along the Black Sea. The Germans and their Allies are finished if we keep up the pressure and don't get war weary.

Some reorganizations are taking place so that more infantry units can be placed on the front lines instead of protecting artillery, HQ, and other rear echelon units. Supply is slightly less of a problem but fuel has become the scarce resource. Some air operations will be reduced in order to save up fuel for more important uses. Also thinking of reducing some units in Finland in order to strengthen units on the front lines.

Soviets run into fierce resistance south of Kirovograd. Enemy units retreat from the Crimean Army positions--is this a "trap". Reorganization continues. Are the Axis trying to get their troops out of the pocket that is forming east and south of Kirovograd? The 27th Army begins it's southward movement west of the Pripet Marshes. The 27th Army is heading for Hungary's capital. Getting crowded between the Pripet Marshes and the Baltic Sea...

Good news. Warsaw has been liberated as has Ludlin (spelling). The 19th Army has progressed deep into the Carpathian Mountains. Engineers are hard at work maintaining supply lines to the brave troops not just in the Carpathians but also on other fronts.. Elements of the 35th Army has closed the distance between the Soviet Army and the Commonwealth troops. In the northern area elements of the 7th Army threaten to break thru the German lines.

I simply did not see the turn...and had no notification that the turn was in the folder...guess I'll have to start looking into the folders instead of just looking for notifications...the last notification I had about this game was FOUR days ago and told me the German turn 56 was in the folder.

I have not done my turn yet because after I enter my turn in the Dropbox it cuts off my internet connection for more than TWO hours while the turn is uploaded slowly to the Dropbox.
SO I do the surfing and email first...I will get at it ASAP.

As soon as I enter this I will upload my turn to Dropbox...ugh.

!9th and 13rd Armies have broken thru the Carpathian Mountains...the 35th Army elements are within sight of Commonwealth forces in Rumania. The 7th Army makes slow progress
in the Northern Front.

Now I will upload my turn (it is 11am now) have breakfast, feed and groom the cat and get my garbage can in from the road...maybe by then my turn will have uploaded.
to the Dropbox.

No worries Larry. Yeah, I've got into the habit of checking the actual folders because the notifications can be unreliable sometimes.

Sounds like u need an ISP that wasnt designed in the middle ages......;-)

Well, when you live out in the country you cannot be too choosy in picking an ISP. I thought about going to a satellite ISP but would have a new problem during storms knocking out my internet (does not usually happen to me on "air" based ISP). From July to November we usually can have a thunderstorm (with and without actual rain) every day.

I have DirecTV and every thunderstorm knocks out my TV.

Soviet forces capture Constanta meeting Commonwealth forces...We see this as a major advance in our war with the Nazi nations. Our breakthrough in the Carpathian Mountains is slowed by supply issues but we are building roads as quickly as we can to use the advance to it's most.

My fault. Thought it would be turn 58 for Russia. But it is turn58 for Norway and then ongoing to Western Allies. Falco might have already downloaded the turn but not yet played it.

Hello Larry,

sorry for the delay. Wanted to play the next turn already, but there had been some issues that kept me for playing. Will play the next turn on Sunday. Berlin is still not taken (hope so, have yet got time to look at the turn).

Well, I broke down and got a satellite ISP...much faster downloads and uploads so maybe that problem is solved.

Russia continues to advance. I've moved units next to Allied units so they know where our boundaries are. No offensive actions will be taken against anyone but Axis forces. They are just there to prevent misunderstandings.

Highlight of this months offensive is the bombing and reduction to zero of Berlin's production. I lost 31 aircraft TOTAL in the attack while the Germans lost most including 30 Jet Fighters. That's a win in my column. Also bombarded some enemy units behind Commonwealth lines. I also landed some paratroopers behind enemy lines in an unprotected fortification--wonder if I'll be able to hold onto it.

This has been a long war. My people are war weary but insistent on completing the destruction of the Axis nations.

Some Cold War crisis showing up here?

Btw, we are at turn 61, July 1946. Germany is still defending!

Yeah, got to play like I'm Stalin...of course the war would be different because by July 1946 the Americans would have several atom bombs. I think they would have used them on Germany...maybe even the Germans would have the bomb but not sure since they scuttled their program earlier (Hitler did not think they could work).

Part of this is because I overproduced factories and ran out of supplies for a lot of turns and could not attack because my overproduced units were not getting enough supplies. And because the Germans did not make the same mistakes as in the real war.

Well, I continue to advance. I am approaching Berlin...another max out air attack on Berlin resulted in heavy German losses and almost none for the Russian Air Force. I am trying to capture Berlin BEFORE the Allies...
