We have low (2/3) DL of Port Moresby with no recon running so the damage shown as 17% might be wildly wrong. There are now no aircraft shown at the base. Possibly tomorrow there will be no CAP or it will be LRCAP. Buna has no airfield, others nearby are built to size 1 except Finschhafen at size 2. It's tough going but we need to build up experience in these bomber groups. Will rest as needed. It's likely the Empire has assigned crack fighter pilots to defense as an attrition measure so any we take out are good attrition for our side.

• Squad upgrades in Australia and New Zealand are going well and (of course) still have a long way to go. In New Zealand pools there are just enough 'NZ Inf Section 41' that many Bn with militia squads are upgrading one per day; there are 10 to go including 2 on Fiji. There will then be a hiatus of several months while the pool builds up to cover the upgrade of 3 Bdes. For Australia pool the pool of 'Aus Inf Sect 42' can cover some Bn-size units but not others. Plenty of smaller units are upgrading and the larger Bn will be able to in a couple of weeks. In less than 2 months the Bdes should be able to upgrade.


Philippines
• Just the bombardment at Bataan, today without mushroom cloud retaliation. Several convoys seen at Cagayan.

• There are some Philippines squads and USA Philippines-specific squads in the pools so selected units at Bataan have been set to receive replacements. A few more VP for the Empire, yes; but perhaps we can make them take a little longer and take out a few more Imperial squads by the time Bataan falls. Bataan has 17,000 supply.

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya
• Very quiet but for air strikes and bombardment at Singapore. Singapore base damage is service:49, runway:8. We need several days in a row of ineffective attacks to get the remaining 27% to fortification level 3 built.

Probably 2 days before reinforcements arrive. An AVG squadron has moved to Sian to provide some cover, and a single bomber squadron - the only one with the range - will strike enemy assembly areas tomorrow to disrupt the expected assault. Our troops have built level 1 fortifications, have no disruption, low fatigue, and all but one unit have good morale.


India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• The Empire seems interested in reducing Toungoo before proceeding further into Burma. Our withdrawal of key units to India is proceeding without interference.

• Upgrades of Indian infantry to 'Ind Inf Section 42' squads is proceeding well and within a month the largest remaining units will be able to upgrade. There are 935 squads still to upgrade but about 40% are with units in Singapore. I have set the units there to upgrade but shortage of supply might thwart our effort to extract a higher price from the Empire. Within about a week units the pool can currently cover outside of Singapore will be done and then we will see if units in Singapore are able to upgrade at all.

No more starting the WinMerge application and opening both report files to get the comparison, then manually renaming one file and copying the other when there is a sync bug. Just a click and then any key to exit.

Tomorrow two fresh but inexperienced units with 568 AV will arrive in combat mode. About four days after that a number of other units will arrive, but that will depend on Imperial air interdiction which so far has not targeted the units in question. Enemy Zero's swept the old LRCAP assignment of the AVG Sqn near the Changsha plain, so will certainly shift to this spot tomorrow.

Overall
• The sudden wave of subs, perhaps not all yet sighted, off the coast of southeast Australia might be part of IJN operations in the coming days.


West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• No enemy subs sighted.

• At San Francisco we have 13 air units and 7 ground units for Southwest Pacific Theater and will shortly carry them all to Australia. Those APD's will be back at SF in 3 days to perform any minor repairs needed then form the greater part of the escort. Other ships for the convoy are being marshaled now.


Pacific
• Subs off Suva. Our convoy ran over them with no losses.


New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain
• At least 4 subs off southern Australia: 2 off Newcastle, 1 off Port Kembla, and 1 sank a Dutch AS off Portsea. A couple of convoys from the West Coast which were bound for Melbourne are being routed around Tasmania to Adelaide.

• Aoba Island and Reef Islands are receiving supply for their PBY's tonight/tomorrow. There is a very small tanker on the way to Luganville because the AVP and KV at Aoba Island need more fuel in case they have to flee.

• A 2x CL TF is idling just NE of Vanikoro in case the next small Imperial invasion comes to the Santa Cruz Islands without escort. The invasion of Lunga puts them right next door.

• No losses over Port Moresby, light CAP opposition.


Philippines
• The anaconda takes its time.

• 2x PBY made a shipping attack at Cagayan all the way from Ambon - 20 hexes! No hits.

• The arty boys at Bataan are still putting some hurt on in exchange for the supply burned every turn.

Yeah- they watched Return of the Jedi and saw how they can use two large tree trunks swinging on ropes to crush Japanese tanks when they hit from both sides.

I recall I have seen/read an AAR like this in past. Very old.

Once through the hilly / mountain / forest south of Sian this panzer army can try to swing around 'north for lack of better term' to attacking into the plains and against the Chinese capital. A "Patton Pivot" once Sian is captured.

It was very effective as I recall.

I hesitate to offer you advise ~ a rookie to an expert ~ however if British Anti Tank guns are near Ledo, you have the air transport, and victory points to purchase out - you may want to consider a re-enforcement along this line.

Status: offline 		I think the greatest problem with defending against tanks in China is the Chinese Army units have so few anti-tank weapons. The squads themselves never get any - anti-armor remains at 5 through all upgrades IIRC - and there are only a few organic to the units. Only two specific anti-tank units. Once those devices are lost there are practically no replacements. Add in the low starting experience of Chinese units and it's a bad situation!

I may have a chance in Burma soon. Of course one try is no sand box but I do have a thickish
cranium and am not adverse to experimentation. I have a vision of 3:1 .....

Status: offline 		My experience is that at this point in the war, Allied NavS pilots are not to be trusted! Most of them are around 50 NavS, which is a little low for consistent results, IMO. Once they're uniformly 70, I get more comfortable relying on them. However, if you've got good pilots, maybe there's a search hole that the enemy has found and exploited? Or he's running the KB around at full speed, which seems crazy.

Just my 2 cents, at least.

I agree. The only hole was if KB1 was a good bit east and sped west with a patrol back east. I am not sure if that would require a full speed run, and I doubt he had a reason to do that. I think anywhere KB1 was had at least single coverage and it's even possible it was under double coverage.
