I had meant to set ROE to HOLD when trying to find the target Russian boomer in Apache85's final intermediate scenario (2.4) but accidentally failed to do this for below-surface contacts. I identified an SSN and marked it hostile, at which point the AI launched a SUBROC anti-submarine missile with a nuclear payload that obliterated both the attack sub and the target SSBN, which must have been lurking nearby. I read the briefing about SUBROC deployment but did not notice the depth and speed of the launch platform when the AI fired the missile. I tried in a previous playthrough to launch the SUBROC manually but failed, probably because I was under the ice. Can anyone tell me whether my submarine has to be surfaced or merely at periscope depth to fire the SUBROC and what is the acceptable launch speed window (not mentioned in the weapon's database entry, BTW)? Also, what is the best way in the sim to determine whether there is an ice layer above? Close to the North Pole in Apache85's mission I see a thin yellow border; is this the ice layer boundary? Many thanks for the gouge, as ever.

Yes, that thin line is the ice in that scenario. You don't need to be on the surface or at periscope depth (remember in a sub you would want to avoid doing either of those unless absolutely necessary). The database entry shows launch depth down to 160ft. So if you are set to "Shallow" you are fine to launch. And yes, obviously you can't launch it under the ice.

The launch speed is blank. I *believe* that a SUBROC can be launched at any submarine speed. Perhaps someone can confirm that.
