Hi !
I just bought SCC WWII, and I've some very minor issues.

I noticed that at the top and the bottom of the screen, I have a fine black bar, like if a small texture was missing. I'm running the game in fullscreen, with a resolution of 1920x1080 (the resolution of my desktop) with acceleration activated. If I change the resolution, the black bars aren't necessarily here or with the same size depending of the resolution.
I noticed too that these black bars aren't here at all with Strategic Command Classic Global Conflict & SCC WWI (all Matrix editions) : there is always a texture in this spaces. So it seems to be an issue specific with SCC WWII. But it's not a big issue :P
[I attached a screenshot to show]

I noticed too that when I go into the settings menu, under "video/mode", I see the usual resolutions... (1680x1050, 1768x992, 1920x1080) and there is "1440x900" two times in the end, and the last one of these "1440x900" is always selected when I open the menu, even if the game is currently displayed in 1920x1080. If I click ok without changing resolution, it stays in my current resolution. If I selected the resolution I want (let's say 1920x1080), when I exit the menu and come back, things always looks like how I described.
If you need a screenshot, ask ;)
So here it's really not a big issue too, simply a menu graphical bug which doesn't even prevent to choose the resolution I want.
Here again, I don't have these issue with SCC GC & SCC WWI.

And finally... Here, it's more an "issue" related to SCC GC & SCC WWI. In SCC WWII, the scrolling speed... is fast & smooth !! :D
In SCC GC & SCC WWI, not.
So I looked a bit more and... In SCC GC & SCC WWI, it seems related to displaying map names. But I don't understand : in SCC WWII, map names are always displayed and scrolling is fast (which is perfect).
Isn't there a way to do that for all the SCC games ?
And I noticed that in SCC WWI The Great War & SCC GC Global Conflict Gold, in advanced options, you have to disable the "Map Text" option to have a fast & smooth scroll. Which is annoying. In the expansions (of SCC GC & SCC WWI), in the advanced options, you can use the option "Hide Text During Map Scroll" and change the value of "Scrolls Before Text Hide" which is almost perfect (I set it to 0).
Isn't there a way to have a similar option in SCC WWI The Great War & SCC GC Global Conflict Gold ? Or, if not possible, at least a hotkey to turn manually quickly on/off the option to display names on the map ? It would be really awesome if something could be done !

This last question isn't only related to SCC WWII, but... I'm not sure where it would've been the best to post. But if there is the need to, I can create another thread in one of the other forum ;)
Sorry for the huge post !

The games are very nice and I really like them, keep up the good work :)

And thanks for reading :)

Hi Splatsch,

Thanks for the feedback and as I had just mentioned in another post, the games in this package ar our oldest SC2 games and some of the newer features like map zoom, and hiding of the text during map scroll were not yet implemented, which accounts for some of the differences you see in these games versus the Global Conflict or WWI releases.

In the later releases such as WWI we amended how the map text was displayed, i.e. with anti-aliasing effects which improved the look of the map text, but unfortunately slowed down the rendering which is why we had to introduce adjustments such as disabling of the text during scrolling to speed things up.

Hubert

You're welcome
In fact, I'm not bothered at all by the text, it's only in SCC WWI & SCC GC that it's a bit frustrating that there is the needed option to have a smooth scroll in the expansions and not in the base games (SCC WWI The Great War & SCC GC Global Conflict Gold). I was wondering if something could be done, or if there was an hidden option somewhere...
It's not a big annoyance, simply me who prefer smooth scrolling.
But no problem, I understand perfectly that you can't solve everything, especially on old games like this ;) I'm really glad to be able to discover this games, and that they're running smoothly on my OS :D

Not a huge annoyance, but do you think something could be done for the black bars ?

Thanks for your answer & the explanations

Hi MarechalJoffre,

Is your issue with the resolution setting or the black bars? If it is the black bars this is to be expected for the older games as they are simply centered on the screen this way at various resolutions. It is actually the same for the newer SC2 releases, but instead of black bars we just fill the space with an interface texture instead, but the end result is the same.

Hubert

The thread got me wondering about the black bars indeed, but that clears it up. Thanks for your time.

Great to hear and it looks like I have traced the issue with the SETTINGS screen and will have a workaround to eliminate the black bars for the next update.
