Darkwing, really enjoying your AARs. I've been running through each of the scenarios before I read them so don't get spoiled. In Damn the Torpedoes, like you, I managed to sink most of the opposing subs with the loss of just 1 UK FF and 1 US FF. I then blissfully set sail due east for the English channel when my E-1 on station to the north picked up about 20-25 Backfires approaching. Results of that encounter mirrored yours. In my second effort, started from an earlier saved game, I realized that at that point I had already shot down 3 Bear recon aircraft and sunk both of the Mayak AGIs, and therefore the Sovs might be short on recon assets. I was not certain how the convoy position was discovered in my first attempt (satellite maybe?), so instead of continuing east, I turned the whole convoy directly south and positioned my SM-1 armed ships to the north of the convoy on the threat axis. My intent was to sail to the Iberian peninsula and then skirt the French coast up to the channel to hopefully avoid any remaining subs and thus detection. I also hoped that the Backfires might not be able to carry two Kitchens at that range, making any raid easier to deal with. However, after about 12 game hours, no enemy activity at all was detected, neither subs nor aircraft. I decided to take a chance that all the subs had been taken out, so I turned northeast at full speed and made it to the safe zone completely unscathed for a Triumph. Anyway, thanks for your good work!
