Air losses

All the ground losses were on damaged planes where I stripped all the pilots out.

Rufe's shoot down the beasts over Miri; Oscars get the Beaufighters over Jesselton. Zeroes get the Wildcats over Attu.

Panay falls to the IJA.

No, what, he closed a string in last week or so, downing I guess more than 150 SBDs, comparable numbers of F4s, more than 10 B 17s I believe, and a generous number of P 38 and P 39; I'd more than curious to drop glance at Obvert's pools right now;

Yeah, that is the silver lining. If I can sweep the huge Allied fighter concentrations with one sentai (42) Tojo and come off 5-1 the Allies are in a very dangerous situations.

They have 120 units north of Singers, that are supplied by a couple of level 1 ports, only one airfield over size 1 and many are simply size 0. Everything is super touch and go but there is some hope.

Since June 1, 1942 I have been cranking out around 20 fighters per day. Now half are A6M2 and Oscar Ic, but they can start to go over to escort and base defense roles, while the A6M3 and Tojo IIa can be used offensively.

There are now 120 Nick As out there, and 60 or so Rufes and they work to to protect bases and counter the 4E Beasts.

The KB is steaming out of Samah today, with 260 planes and is being joined by three battleships several cruisers and should re-establish some control.

I have resized many fighter groups to 45.

I am seriously hurting in aviation support, incredibly pinched here.

I don't know the Japanese side at all. Is this lack of aviation support typical for Japanese players, or is it a result of the peculiarly bad circumstances you have in this game?

It is restricted normally, but with the Soviets activated it is really bad since most JFB's strip Manchuko/Korea of almost all air HQs and aviation support units.

Ah, that makes sense and since just about your entire Japanese Empire is in range of B17s, you need air base units pretty much everywhere. Fun times!

Yeah, he is stretched really thin ... that is why his CV's are even more important than normal ... mobile AV support ....

And of course, while the KB are steaming around providing this mobile AV support, they are burning fuel.

Its catch-22 though, if he doesn't move and capture the oil, then he's toast anyway.

But its looking a lot better if you can get the upper hand in the air and the sea. Obvert has clearly gone "all in" so I reckon if you can claim the DEI then he's lost a lot.

Course, its counter balanced by the Soviet juggernaut, but their pools are hurting as well.

I have faith in you!

Missed a day or two to rl...

Anyhow, the Allies moved a full division around to take Mersing, and by the time I paid attention to them it was too late and Mersing falls...so there is 2000 AV cut off on Malaya.

Allies have 600 fighters at Singers, 130 more just to north.

Lost another island in the Aleutians.

Allied subs continue to run riot, although bombers actually sank one at Manila. A soviet one to boot.

Soviet subs continue to run riot in the South Seas hitting the Kashima twice.

I use some less than stellar pilots to sweep allied fighter strength...and don't do that well. Back to good pilots.

We trade jabs here at Mersing. Another task force was headed for Kuching area and instead stands off indecisive.

Kashima has another soviet torpedo north of Mindanao. The lousy Soviets are using Manila and several are repairing there.

1st Sentai with Tojo IIa and 42 planes reaches Malaya, my third Tojo converted sentai but more importantly they have decent pilots and will be able to start sweeping. There is a fourth Sentai but they are flying protection over Tokyo.

Fighter strength shortfall is now down to -177 planes. Much better than the -400 planes two months ago, and this with a substantial resizing of zero groups to 36 to 45.

Kind of a quiet day...a few Japanese attacks in the PI, Allies are quiet in the air and miss my traps.

1st Sentai will sweep tomorrow...raising the number of sweeping Tojo sentais to 2 in Malaya.

A cargo ship hit, but not sunk by Allied subs...

This training cruiser had three soviet torps a while back and managed to limp into a no account island but the crew cannot pump out the counter flooding for fear of capsizing. An AR in enroute and should help, the ship will go into pierside mode once the AR arrives.

Definitely turning the tide ... Enough to survive '43? Still an open question ... Can you support ~350/month fighter production and ~2000 fighters in operation?
If you have enough economy to do that, then I think you can make it through '43. If he has damaged your economy where you cannot support that ... then ... not so sure.

Not suggesting that is the only metric, but I think it a pretty critical one with Bear active. If you can control the air, then you have a chance for force a stalemate on the land in MAN. Maybe even allow you to take the DEI for a few months ....
