I'm rather new to this game and decided that I'd take notes on problems I ran into and things that confused me. As a result, I've managed to create a step-by-step guide for new people on how to get started.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1374061499

Hopefully it's not too redundant with all the other material out there.

BTW, if anyone can remember anything they were confused by or anything that caused problems for them when they first started let me know. So far the guide only reflects my own "noob" experience.

My biggest problem in CMANO is to set-up a mission....
How to do that, which data to enter etc.

A lot of that depends on what you're trying to do with the mission. It also depends on what tactics you're choosing to employ. Since the name of the game is experimenting with tactics, a lot of Command is experimenting with the various settings in the missions. There isn't necessarily a single "right" answer, although some decisions might work better than others. The question, really, is what behavior you're attempting to get the AI to reflect.

The mission editor is pretty complicated. Other than simply the overwhelming number of options and not being sure what they all are, can you think of anything confusing about it in general?

If you get through the tutorials then they gives you specific options to configure in different situations so you end up learning many of the options from that.

Thanks and np. I updated it a bit in the last day or two.

Once I've gone a while without adding anything or making changes I think I might create a more printable PDF version.

What hotkey will separate ship groups into individuals ? Nothing I tried worked.

What should I check when getting an event failure? Same thing on 2 separate scenarios?

This is a bit confusing and took me a bit to figure out.

First if you are not already there switch to Unit View with V (or PgUp or Keypad-9 whichever you are used to and feel is more convenient. they all toggle unit/group view)

Once you see "Unit View" in the status bar at the lower left, and you can view individual units, the (hit D to) Detach command will actually work. But the Group Units command will not!!!

Toggle to Group View using V again, and now (hit G to) Group Units will work but Detach Unit will not!

Basically to detach units you must be in Unit View. To group units together you must be in Group View. I found this a bit confusing as I was expecting to be able to group/ungroup units no matter which view I was in (Assuming the UI would let me select the units).

What do you mean by event failure? Like an event didn't trigger when it should have?

Detach and group units works as NimrodX says. Hotkeys can be displayed through main menu Help -> Hotkeys.

@NimrodX:

First thing I get when hitting Play is the "...scenario has concluded. You will now look at your 0 performance."

I hit play again and scenaro seems to play ok except when some force crosses a line and I get:

Event Shmuck Condition set to Red was triggered but did NOT fire(at least one condition failed).

I don't understand the fail at start and I don't know why the event triggers but did not fire.....

Is this with a scenario that you're creating or a bug in an existing scenario? Which scenario?

Ok. I'd recommend... Post the scenario file for what you're having trouble with in the scenario subforum and someone should be able to help you figure out what's wrong with the triggers/conditions.

As for the scenario suddenly ending, make sure the scenario end time isn't set before the start time. Otherwise it's probably a trigger/action problem.

I didn't want to add scenario creation to the "noob" guide as using the scenario editor is a whole different can of worms. But if nobody has created a scenario editing tutorial then it would probably be a good idea.

There is some scenedit docuumentation in the CMANO manual and theres this addenda http://www.warfaresims.com/?page_id=2709 but I don't know of any tutorial type documentation for it. There is probably a decent howto video.
