I remember a while back there were screenshots concerning how production would be handled in the game. Has the decision on how production been finalized by the Matrix team?

How will oil and resources be tied into production?

How about routine convoys. Will they be handled automatically and will they be represented on the map as little TF icons? I dread to see hundreds of little trasnport icons all over asia. Imagine trying to look for your surface combat TF in the middle of all that mess.

I'd read up on it myself, but matrix has deleted all the old posts.

I just want straight answers - please no hot-headed debates about this! I've seen how ugly it gets...

I expect that there will be the option to switch off convoy icons and only show TFs.

Hi There is an automated system. It works as follows

Japanese supply city Osaka Allies San Francisco and Karachi
Place transports ships in these ports. Select them (Yes or No) to become part of auto supply.
List Bases (can select from base or from menu listing all bases.
(auto supply on or off)
Each turn the system will make a TF out of the available ships and send it to one of the auto bases.

When you are looking at TF's on the map you get a pop up that tells you what the TF is (mission and ship types) so it is not hard to find your combat TF's (the ship icon is different for transport, Combat, Carrier,Sub TF's)

You can still make supply TF's yourself.

Japanese auto supply TF's will also look to pick up oil or resource rather then return to Japan empty (they will drop off supply and then look for nearest base with a load to carry. ) (Also auto supply TF's will move to pick up oil/resource when it is available and they are not being used to carry supply.

Something to keep you awake at night. By June 1944 the Allied player will be controlling in excess of 3k ships (On Dec 7 41 the Japanese player is controlling at least 1k)(But both numbers count PT,PC,MSW,SC,)

How are escorts handled by this convoy system?

Will auto convoys avoid areas in range of enemy aircraft?

I see nothing to be scared about if the auto-convoy system is controlling most of those 3000 odd ships. What would be scary (& rather stupid) is if one decided to handle the entire convoy system manually  Still, bases within range of enemy aircraft (the AZOC concept from pacwar?) would still need to be supplied manually I take it?

That won't be too much trouble - if we can group them into TFs of 1000 or so.:D

Hmmm, maybe turns will take longer than I expected. :)

The auto supply systems needs to work! It did more or less in PW but it doesn't in UV (at least I can't get it to work...) and no patch has as yet been able to fix the engine.

If we use the same piece of code in WiP start looking forward to some long nights...

Cheers,
Christof

How can you not get the auto supply to work. It is starting to get old when people complain about WITP. If it is to long for you or to complex do not play.

But if they did't play they'd have nothing to complain about.

Have they fixed it? I don't remember the last time I tried it (it might have been pre-v2.30) but from what I can remember I had to watch it constantly lest my AKs on a Brisbane to PM run suddenly decide they wanted to supply Lunga instead. Figured if I had to watch them that carefully I might as well do it manually and not waste the turn or two lost by having to re-direct them to their propper destination.

How are escorts handled by this convoy system?

You can add DDs and DEs, MSW, etc that are stationed in these 'home ports' of Osaka, SF and Karachi to convoy duty just as the APs and AKs can be...and the AI will add escorts to the convoys it creates as it deems necessary.

Hmm, thinking down this line ... will submarines intercept and trail these huge convoys or are we one shotting things as the herd stampedes past?

The thought of intercepting one of these huge convoys and snacking on it for a few days until completely out of ammo makes one's mouth water!

It is one of the things I really miss in UV, Naval combat is too one-shot'ish ... no follow through, with combat ships chasing after the dispersing convoy.

I agree, I think there should be some tweaking of the submarine AI, including allowing multiple ship hits from the same torpedo spread. As to following a convoy tf, that may partly be the player's initiative to locate and position subs accordingly.
