How about the famed (Austrian-born and very easy on the eyes) inventor Hedy Kiesler Markey? She contacted a friend, composer and pianist George Antheil, who helped her invent a frequency-hopping system which made it harder to jam radio guided torpedoes. The US Navy did not want to use it since it did not come from within the Navy but they used an updated system later. The same technology is used in bluetooth and wireless technology.

No kidding. I hereby volunteer my alimentary tract as a receptacle for all those environmental toxins spilling from the barrels. I'm only thinking of the environment mind you.

EDIT: Frequency hopping anecdote: During a stint working for an avionics company, one of the old-time engineers told me how back in the day a competitor was making a frequency hopping radio and the DOD (or whichever service) asked our firm to make a competing model. So, our guys came up with a working model fairly quickly but the procurement officer thought it didn't work since he couldn't hear the frequency hopping (it sounds like a very quick "phft, phft, phft..."). Our guys said it was working, but they made it so well you couldn't hear the frequency transition. Anyway, the military guys didn't like that since they couldn't tell by ear if it was working or not, so our guys added in the "phft, phft, phft..."

Status: offline 		My family and I went out of town to visit my mom last Sunday and Monday. When I got back it was deadline time for the next issue of the magazine, so I took a break from updating the AAR for a few days. That break was a relief - updating the AAR takes a lot of time. I'll try to post an update tomorrow. Things are going well, though most of it is the behind-the-scenese stuff that is only exciting to the player, not to the readers. The most significant development is that the Allies invaded Uruppu Jima. The landings went smoothly, with no losses and the troops coming ashore in excellent shape. They outnumber the enemy 1900 AV to 1300 AV, but this is 3x terrain with probably six or more forts. So my guys are standing down to let the air force and combat shpis bombard repeatedly. It may be weeks before the first attack.

I'm having the most fun with this game but have been creating so many images per turn that updating the AAR became increasingly onerous. When "onerous" collided with "deadline-week" at work, I yielded. Hence the ten-day "vacation." I'll see if I can come up with something more balanced.

NoPac: For me, the action in NoPac is fascinating and complex and fraught with perils known and unknown. To the reader it likely seems dull - No major combat! No knife fight in the dark! No duel at ten paces!

Erik is heading on vacation for about ten days tomorrow, so I'll have more down time to think over this AAR. Right now, I kinda feel like it's not worth posting until interesting things are happening from the reader's perspective, even though from my perspective it's a blast.

SEAC: Things are much hotter here at the moment, but underlying everything is the fact that I'm in no hurry here. At present, I want to engage the enemy for attritional purposes (in air and on land)...but it suits me to do so as far from the Gulf of Siam and South China Sea as possible. When the time is right - at some presently undefined and unknown moment - the enemy MLR will crack and the enemy units should be weak and retiring in disorder, subject to defeat in detail. When that happens, the further they have to retire, the better.

Status: offline 		The movement of your 3500 AV stack may be deceptive. A move of one hex consists of ½ a hex in the originating hex and ½ a hex in the destination hex. Your originating hex is clear terrain, and the next hex is jungle or jungle rough. The movement rate should drop a lot after the first 23 miles.

The chess match going on in the game is rich and challenging and fun, but right now it's mostly about planning and logistics and prep and getting ready for the next round of heavier action. No great sea battles or land envelopments are taking place, so I don't think it makes for great reading for Ye Peanut Gallery. So I've been loathe to post of late. I don't think things will change up here in the near future, unless Erik sallies forth, which is possible.

NoPac: I really, really like the Allies position, logistics and planning in NoPac, but what do I know?

SEAC: A robust war down here, but mainly below the surface. There's a stalemate at the front with lots of aerial moves and countermoves, but basically it's West Front 1918 for awhile on the surface. But, under the surface, much fun ongoing.

Status: offline 		Yes, maybe a surprise invasion of Sabang and/or Victoria Point. Then a paradrop on Chumphon to cut off the Malay peninsula.

Depending upon the Kuriles and his reactions, you might be able to redeploy the Death Star and get another avenue of approach going.

Status: offline 		All of those options are under consideration....and Erik has pondered and planned for them as thoroughly as I have (or more so). If an Allied invasion showed up at Georgetown tomorrow, or if there was a para-assault at Nikkon St. Ignatius, he'd have the places well defended or he'd be leaving it weakly defended for a reason. I think he's counting on either carriers or LBA to deal with a threat in the Andaman Sea region. But I'm probing the area just to tickle his musings.
