What are the victory conditions in this game?

In terms of 1945 result I think the Axis have this comfortably won already barring any blunders. But if there is an early auto victory to aim for I think it could be exciting - for me the Soviets have held enough ground and preserved enough forces that an attempt to score enough points for AV could come with a fair degree of risk.

Bitter End - so there is no game defined victory until the end of turn 224. Currently only two of the original 8 commanders are still taking a go so to some extent an overall game result is not too meaningful for most players. It would be more for how the game situation changed from when they joined I guess? But I think any victories or defeats would have to be subjective judgements of our own now rather than the conditions defined by the program.

UPDATE ON THE NAME OF OUR SUMMER OPERATIONAL PLAN

quote:

ORIGINAL: Telemecus

OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS

What will we call out summer campaign plan?

We started planning our summer campaign way back before the winter started - and now we are actually playing turn 38 we are only a little while away from Kick off and on version 15 of the plan. But we lack one crucial ingredient - the operational name. Last time we had nominations and a vote for the name of our campaign for Moscow, Operation Totenritt. This time we are opening nominations for all lurkers to contribute, nominations even from our Soviet opponents will be considered. However any suggestions which imply anything other than a complete victory will of course be eliminated!

So what are your suggestions????!!!!

Nominations remain open but the following are still contenders

The Stelteck Plan
Hangman (thedude357)
Noose (thedude357)
Sehnsucht (leverkuhn)
Treppenwitz (leverkuhn)
Zugzwang (leverkuhn)

These nominations were eliminated

Operation flatonface (SparkleyTits) - too negative
Operation Wishful Thinking (M60A3TTS) - too negative
Case Blue (historical) - too negative
Operation does not imply anything other than a complete victory (N35T0R) - too long
Operation 'I hear Siberia is very nice this time of year' (Zorch) - too long
Operation Golden Spike (Crackaces) - sounds like we are drug dealers
Operation Yellow Snow (AFV) - sounds like we are drug dealers
Operation Don't eat the yellow snow where the huskies go (Zorch) - sounds like we took those drugs
Operation ******** Prize (lowsugar) - redaction spoils the point of an operational name
Plan ******** (thedude357) - redaction spoils the point of an operational name
Operation PanzerTotenKriegKopfBlitz", or PTKKB (Zorch) - too long, or too abbreviated
Springtime for Hitler (Zorch) -taken

It's the one I like the most. A treppenwitz can be a brilliant and decisive thought that comes to you shortly after you left a discussion clueless and puzzled. It evokes the idea of a brilliant solution to a very difficult problem.

A good name with a suitable theme song for the summer offensive, what else do you need for advertising. Will the make tours through Germany to attract volunteers to fill out the ranks?

Treppenwitz has taken an early lead. After opening out the nominations process including to the Soviet team they have taken an interesting interpretation to extend that to actually casting votes too With or without Soviet votes Treppenwitz would still be in the lead.

AND THE WINNER IS

TREPPENWITZ

with Skyfall by Adele being the official summer campaign song!

We have had some debate about the English translation of Treppenwitz - the one I see as coming closest to it at the moment is "Belated Rejoinder"

Many thanks to leverkuhn for first suggesting this!

Turn 33 Army group North

Another peaceful week for AGN with no Soviet attacks.

There continues to be talk of a Finnish offensive at OKH headquarters and it appears that field marshal Telemecus is very enthusiastic about the idea, so much so that he's sending 40th pz corps with 10th pz and LAH mot divisions North to take part. He also informs me that Mannerheim intends to attack across the Volchov river just South of Lake Ladoga with the idea of preventing Soviet reinforcements being sent North by cutting the rail link. AGN's 60th motorized division is to be temporarily attached to the Finnish Karelian army for this operation.

Plan for the three stage Finnish offensive codenamed operation Rudolf/Rednose/Reindeer. Scheduled for next week.
Stage 3 (Reindeer) is contingent on both the other operations succeeding and will require a following wind even if they do both succeed so I'd give it a low probability of being implemented

Turn 33 Army Group South

Another exciting and cold week of blizzard. Only dreams of summer can provide moments of warmth. Some decent defensive stands by the Romanians, as well as successful counterattacks by German forces that rout and push out some Soviet forces. Yes, yes, the Axis can counterattack during the blizzard.

Turn 34 11-February-1942 Centre

With the Soviet side going quiet north of the Oka, apart from our usual yo-yo battle over two hexes we start to "electric slide" (Crackaces term!) our commands south. The boundary with North is now moving from Moscow to the Oka itself while centre shifts its boundary with south southwards.

The Soviets make a net territorial gain of only one hex in the centre - and our attacks in our turn are now starting to reach parity in numbers, with the effect of many many Soviet units being routed back.

The Soviet Blizzard offensive is grinding to a halt. In a slight rewriting of history we now start the

AXIS BLIZZARD OFFENSIVE!!!!

Turn 34 Army group North

Operation Rednose is cancelled after reconnaissance patrols report heavy Soviet reinforcements being deployed in the target area.

However operation Rudolf goes ahead and after a tough, close fought battle the Soviet defenses are broken by the Finnish VI corps ably commanded by Major General Talvela. 40th panzer corps exploits the gap but is unable to cut off the Soviet divisions North of lake Janisjarvi.
