Ok, I have SPwaw v. 4.5 and yesterday i Downloaded the v. 5.01. I started to install the 5.01 update, but my computer started to whine something like this: 'C:\games\spwaw\SND\vid998.smk a decompression error has been detected file CRC mismatch - data integrity error' So, after this, I continued the update install by 'pass'(I'm not sure what 'ohita' is in English). Finally when the install was ready I started to paly the game but; 'file vid998.smk missing, aborting.' So, what am I supposed to do? The update took many hours to download by my 56k modem. I'm not gonna download it again. Thanks.

Just download that vid998.smk file and put it to the right folder. The file should be on the download-page. Eli ko. tiedosto löytyy download sivulta Matrixilta ja ainakin myös Pelitin (vain tilaajille) sivuilta. Koko taisi olla noin 50-60 megaa. Itsekin jouduin lataamaan sen erikseen...

It still doesn't work. I downloaded the vid998.smk file, extracted it to the 'streams' folder and it still doesn't work! What should I do? This is driving me crazy...

I had to do the same thing, but it worked after the new vid988smk file! Stupid question maybe, but did you delete the steel.prf file?! I didn't at first, and it wouldn't run, try it if you didn't already. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I tryed to find the steel.prf file, but I didn't find it anywhere so... hmm... It didn't exist. Anyway, The game simply can't find the vid998.smk file. It is there but it just says: message: file vid998.smk not found, aborting. Goddamn this is annoying... All the time what I put on downloading the updates... :(

just an observation but... you stated in an earlier msg in this thread that you put the vid998.smk file in a directory called "streams" (plural) mine is in \spwaw\snd\stream (singular) .. i can't think of any reason other than this (from what i've read here) that it shouldn't run also, if you start the game using the file mech.exe it will forego playing the smacker file - it still needs to be in the directory but it wont play. hope it gets worked out for you A.H. - great game :)

well, if I got your message right, what I meant that my vid998.smk file is in: spwaw\snd\stream But hmm... I've tryed just about every way to launch the game... It wont run. It just says that 'file vid998.smk missing, aborting.' Yep, it's a great game, but now Im so angry that im not sure will I play it in a long time...

Redownload the vidsmk file, place in correct folder, delete the steel prefs file from the "save" folder.

If you've installed an upgrade, delete mech.exe from the Steel Panthers World at War folder and then try your install again. Before you open the game, put the vid998.smk into its folder. If it was a full install, I don't know. [ June 16, 2001: Message edited by: REMF ]

Thanks for the help. I have thought about downloading the file again, but with 56k modem, it takes time and time is money. I allready pissed my parents off when I downloaded the v. 5.01 and the vid998.smk file. That did take some time...

It took me about four hours last time. Voisiko joku Suomalainen myydä mulle toimivan v. 5.01?
