I brought the game again on GOG just because I love this game and cannot wait for Distant Worlds 2, on a side-note im saddened that are has been 0 teaser or jack, since a business leak a few months ago.
A few forum posts indicating that you guys are looking for manpower. Please for the love of us who has played and enjoyed DW for the longest time since day 1 please think of a marketing strategy, hell go as far as a crowdfunder if you think that could possibly speed things up. Alas though if its keypeople you are waiting on, by all means take your time, but give us some nuggets pleaaaaaase.

P.S. Possibly open up Distant Worlds Universe for further modding, or new DLC?
P.P.S Im currently on a new DW playthrough with sad piano music. :*(

Yours truly
Guy who really worships Distant Worlds
And a bit of a spoiled brat.

Space Bro's, Distant World is on sale at Steam for $19.79! I wonder if this is because they are getting ready to release DW 2? haha, yeah, I am starting the rumor. But seriously, DW never goes on sale, what is up with this?

Yeah, not unheard of. But it's rare, so go buy it if you haven't already! Best 4X game ever made!

They are hiring graphics artists which means the framework of the game is near feature complete since you only need basic graphical placeholders to develop the core engine and balance. The pretties come last.

Presumably the pretties are also required before unveiling the game to the public. If they unveiled it with placeholder art, that would leave a really bad first impression.

Very true. If I was to guess I'd say they are fast approaching an alpha build ready for initial player testing and media glimpses. Probably winter '19 would be a safe bet since there are no other big space 4x games due out anytime soon and all the recent releases have all had their dlc cycle and are fading away. Perfect time to drop it.

Can't believe I've have DW on my computer for about 2 years now and, just started getting into it. The detail has blown me away! I'll definitely be picking up DW2 if it has a similar game play. My only gripe is that I wish the interface was a bit more intuitive. I also hope it doesn't go the way of Stellaris 2.0, though some folks like it, there seems to be a split among fans. Looking forward to DW2 though.

Stellarus 2.0 was the exact point I stopped playing it. It was when they decided to try to make the perfect strategy game, rather than the perfect space game. That's how it felt to me, anyway.

Edit: Oh, and just to say something on topic, I can't wait for Distant Worlds 2 either - that may turn out to be literally true :-(

Wish I could share more, but we are still hard at work every day on DW2 getting it ready for testing. Good things come to those who wait.

The music makes me pine away for an expanded planetary development model that allows for a pre warp start not at the dawn of space travel but with a secret visit by an ancient alien race who gives your primitive planet just moving into its first mechanized industrial era a head start and you have to develop the planet first before you can make it to space. Kinda niche I know but 4x space games rarely have a complex planet building sim built into the overall galaxy sim and to me it seems like something to be explored. Maybe at least leave it open for modding?

I like the idea of planet building. Research the first rocket and so forth....GP

If you guys are looking for a space 4x with pre-space gameplay check out Predestination. Been in development for years but progress continues. https://store.steampowered.com/app/340210/Predestination/

It’s turn-based though. I’m slowly coming to realize I prefer real-time 4x games which is why I’m so excited for DW2 which conveniently brings us back on topic

When I saw that YT link, I got very excited.

Don't get me wrong, the music was great! Will be even more excited when it's my background music to a DW2 game.

What does Zarathustra have to do with Boskaran expansionism?

Edit:
Oh, nevermind, the missing link is clearly ancient Iranien aliens. Obviously this is a hint that DW2 will feature Giorgio Tsoukalos!

I also loved the pre-warp start in MOO2 but anything more involved than that would land us in Cracktorio and we all know how that goes....and goes...and goes....

Wow, I can't believe how many years it's been watching this thread. Cue Tom Petty:The waiting is the hardest part...

Hey Data, great to see you're still here (suffering with the rest of us ). You've been a great DW resource. Much appreciated.

Haha, yeah, it's really not that bad. I'm no stranger to long waits. I've waited years for all sorts of games, in some cases decades (Warhammer, Battletech). The JTCS from Matrix Games was one of my favourites and East Front 2 has been a long time coming. Then there's the remaster of the Bard's Tale Trilogy which is about 30 years overdue.

That said, none of those games can scratch my space 4x itch. Despite all it's flaws, DW is the pinnacle of the genre and I can't blame anyone for getting a little ancy.

As long as the wait isn't like the MOO 3 fiasco. Talk about a grown man crying. In fairness Quicksilver never had the passion of the original developer Simtex. Glad Erik is continuing with DW2.

I have been wishing the next part since I began to play at 2015, and I had hope than the game would come out this year, but now my bet is late 2019 or 2020.

So I checkout this post from time to time, but I watched "Heroic Age" this summer and I couldn't imagine how cool and how much I want the next game :(

PS: The battle OST from the anime is awesome for playing DW:U

Another year and another check of the forum.

I do worry the lack of news will hinder in the long run, building a little anticipation with a few snippets of info wouldn't hurt.

FWIW, at least he's still posting?

I have to admit, I despise the pay-to-get-into-beta thing that's become usual in the MMO market, but I have to say I'd do it here - I'm happy to pre-buy the game at full retail to help with testing. :)

I'm going to also guess I'm not the only one.

Considering how much I loved the original, sure I'd buy DW2 based on that (blind) and offer alpha/beta feedback.
