Some day, some computer whiz who loves the Pacific will craft a game that will supersede AE. Until then, there's years and possibly decades of good gaming left. Probably, an incompatible new operating system will kill the game before interest truly wanes. With a game of this age, we've suffered some Forumite attrition over the last years. Last year, there seemed to be a sudden influx of newcomers. I figured this was due to a drought in good new games and the fact that the AE forum has remained so robust. Folks noticed and were inspired to give it a try. A lot of those folks have come and gone, with but a few lingering to become part of the present-day backbone of the forum. We've lost a lot of folks but there are still many old-timbers and quality newcomers here. I still enjoy the forum immensely. As for the game, there's no doubt about it. When my game with Obvert winds down, I plan to start a new game against some salty old sea dog (maybe John III, if he is finished buffing his caboose). Of course, that's if the Lord is willing and the creek don't rise.
