This is a short but informative article summarising some of the things we as players don't have to worry about so much in game.

In short, Japanese maintenance, airfield building, fort building and supply use and distribution should be much more difficult than it is for us players. It should also get worse as the war progresses, something that would be hard to model I guess.

Instead, we have better airframes due to R & D, mostly plentiful supply (fuel), can build large and well maintained airfields with good air support, and can operate either army of navy planes from these fields simultaneously. I'm not saying anything should or could have been done differently, I was just reminded while reading this how the game has some serious limitations when it comes to modelling real conditions.

There was no glory for the Japs in repairing those airfields and aircraft.

In the game Japan has not enough AV support for all planes in the OOB > lack of skilled mechanics. It also will run short of supplies late-war > lack of avgas.

The amount of operational losses from landing on poor airfields is interesting. John, please mod this into your mod.

I had to look this up, and I am willing to bet that there hasn't been a single game where the IJAAF built a major air repair facility here.

Kind of a strange place for one. I'm there was a reason they chose there though.

My guess, which I think is quite informed and not sarcastic at all, is that the Navy was screwing over the Army and wouldn't allow them a better spot...

Isn't it nice for the JFB that the game engine has fixed most/all of the faults that are brought up in that article? Just think of how much easier it would be for us players who pay the allies if all of that was modeled in the game!

Yes, it would be so nice to enforce historical restraints and disadvantages on the Japanese side, so the Allies players can beat the AI in late 42 instead of late 43 as it is currently possible, and to win a PBEM in late 43 instead of late 44 / early 45 as is often the case - because the Allies get their fair share of ahistorical advantages as well.[/sarcasm]

As Allies in RA 8.1, I took Canton in January 1942, recaptured Hong Kong on March 18, 1942, I wiped out the 16th Division in Manila, I am grinding Clark Field where 24 units are trapped, I have Nanchang, Wuchang, Rabaul, Palembang, Java, Balikpapen, recently captured Jolo and more recently Tarakan. The current date is 26 May 1942. Oh, what is left of the Northern Army is trapped 1 hex west of Anyang. The computer is just starting to get more units out of Manchuria. 24 units are trapped at Hankow where I have more than a 4:1 AV advantage. I am waiting for the artillery regiments to arrive and to assemble and bring a supply convoy to Hong Kong before I reduce the big but trapped IJA.

Oh, the Hiryu is the only CV left of the original 6 and the Junyo is also sunk. 5 Jap BBs are gone as well.

Am I going too slow?

Looks like some Japanese Admiral was a bit too reluctant .

I am also playing with the realistic but horrible US torpedoes. What I really want are "Goofy" torpedoes and a good bier.

Go to 5:26 (or there about) of the video and look for the Goofy torpedo:

Interesting article and not unexpected considering who the writer is.
