Hello,

I wanted to change a scenario such that it uses older weapon systems. E.g. M1A1 to M60A3. I tried this in the scenario editor, but it seems that you have to make new platoon and remove the existing platoon.

This is very time consuming. Esp for the Opfor who has more units.

Is there a way to change only the weapon system instead of making a new platoon?

Regards,

Hapshott

Hapshott,

No and yes. In game there is no way other than making a new scenario basically with the units you want and it does take time if you are replacing formation by formation. Now on the developer side we do have an undocumented capability to change units and other values we use for our Origins builds in order to be able to make changes on the fly to scenarios. It's not user friendly and replacement of existing information for units works, but you can't add or subtract units from the exported scenario list without causing a game crash. This is not an external tool, but additional compiled code for the particular build. That makes it tougher to release without some form of update and possible editing switch to turn it on. We have a meeting planned for tonight and I can talk with the team and see what, if anything, might be done.

Hello CapnDarwin,

Many thanks for the fast reply and the willingness to look into it. I hope it can be done. It would make the changing of the scenario's more flexible.

Best regards,

Hapshott

No meeting last night but I will be talking with Rob Wednesday evening and we will discuss this item. It is one area we want to improve with Southern Storm for sure to make scenario variants easier to do.

Hapshott,

Nothing yet. We have had no real meeting in the past few weeks due to illnesses and RL issue. I am trying to get a call this evening with ROb to go over the item and see what we can get together for an exe release with the ability added in.

Hapshott,

Have not forgot about you. Rob is out of the country for HOW18 and short vacation. When he get back next week I'll have a list of a few items for him to review and this issue will be one of them.

Thanks.

Still in a holding pattern with work going on for Southern Storm right now. It is still on my radar and if we get into a position the step back and work on Red Storm we will be looking at adding in the functionality. Sorry the news is not better right now.

Sorry to say not the greatest of news. With our current workload, the holidays and some family commitments we are just not able to split time on a Red Storm update. That said, I will chat with Rob and see if there are any other alternative solutions.

Hi CapnDarwin,

That's a pity. But family goes first

I tried to change a full scenario to older equipment. But this is very time consuming. So an alternative solution would be great.

Best regards,

Hapshott

Hi CapnDarwin,

I have found a quick but dirty way to change the equipment fast. Below the method I used:
1) open the xxx-user.xls.
2) go to th unit tab
3) change the units such that it only contains old units. This means that you overwrite everything newer with an older unit (e.g. m1 with the M60A1)
4) save the xxx-user.xls (Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm\Modules\FPRS\Data\xxx) but with a different name (e.g xxx-user_1975.xls)
5) copy this changed file over the xxx.xls (backup the original)
6) read in the scenario in the scenario editor
7) You get two warnings about the database is locked (or something like that). Just press ok
8) press refresh underlying scenario data.
9) save the scenario with a different name
10) copy the original xxx.xls back under data
11) play the changed scenario

There is one disadvantage with this method. You cannot edit it anymore in the scenario editor as the database is incorrect. So you need to do changes (like changing the date) immediately after point 8. If you didn't you need to start over again.

It seems that the units, etc is stored in the scenario itself. The xxx.xls is only used by the editor

I changed all the original scenarios to 1975. These are now much harder to win. Nato with the 1989 equipment is more deadly than Nato with the 1975 equipment. I off course changed the Soviet equipment to 1975. But the T72's which appeared in 1975 kills the M60A1 with ease.

Best regards,

Hapshott

Hapshott,

That is a great workaround. Yes, unit data is stored in the scenarios. All you need to play a scenario is the scenario file and the map.
