Found this site while randomly searching for something else. Pretty interesting, good links at the bottom of the page too.

Interesting ... the xAK Sagadahoc was torpedoed and sunk in the North Atlantic on Dec. 3rd, 1941 - but it appears in the Pacific in WITP-AE! I knew Allied damage control was good, but this goes beyond the pale!

The Sagadahoc in the stock game looks to be only about half the size of the original, so maybe the damage control wasn't up to saving the entire ship.
