Oops, didn't get orders to reverse course. Nothing to ship really anyhow so no great loss other than a potential cap trap.

The 17th Tank Regiment, complete with Type 1 Medium tanks, arrived yesterday but elected to stay in reserve no pursuit mode while the Stuart Tank reinforced Allies mauled the 65th brigade, knocking forts down to 2. But today the 17th Tank assumes defensive positions and the IJA holds their own.

Some 15cm ART only 45 miles away, plus a strong brigade (325 AV) is marching here from the beaches. Will they make it in time?

The Soviets are pushing hard thru China where they sent tanks, and also attempting to cut Manchuko off from China...there is potentially a big tank battle here on the morrow with the 1st Tank Division seeing combat for the first time. The 2nd Tank is 45 miles away and the IJA looks to deliver some strong counterattacks.

The Chinese are infiltrating everywhere.

Cam Ranh Bay sees substantial Allied reinforcements and won't hold.

These are the days that try Japan's soul. Outnumbered everywhere, not enough anything anywhere...

Well, the SOV do represent ~10,000 AV that you normally would not see for 4.5 years.

This is a cautionary tale in that Japan has to destroy the ABDA forces in SRA, prevent supplies from getting to China, and not get involved with Soviets until 1. they are ready and can perform a surprise attack; and 2: some of the better devices have come along like type 1 medium tanks, Tojo, aviation support reinforcements, and Manchuko air forces are built up.

Having said that Obvert is outplaying me on every level. That he could get such a heavy LRCAP from land based air over his carriers & my CAP utterly under performing crushed me in the last carrier battle. Never recovered.

Balikpapen invaded...ABDA fleet present in all its glory.

Soviets have 4 tank units here of unknown size...well, the Nicks strafe them, and then some Sallies bomb them. Tojo's are overwatching, and laying in ambush in dug in positions is the 1st Tank Division, with the 2nd Tank Division heading in in reserve pursuit mode.

I expect a cataclysmic armor clash here at Tolun this afternoon...

If I couldn't take Singapore, Luzon, prevent Indochina and Palembang from being over run, what makes you think I could defend Balikpapen?

It was game over a long, long time ago....

the good divisions of the 25th Army, which had been destroyed in southern Malaya; where are there now?

for sure you managed to extricate a good part of them, and had some months to reconstitute; they ain't good as they were but still, where are them, they don't cost PPs...

what did he invade Balik with?

Could you elaborate a risky, desperate, defense and counter attack plan?

3-1 attack here shatters the tank regiment, the 15cm artillery is 36 miles into their march to reinforce, and the 65th brigade is still three days away...forts knocked down to 1.

Looks grim here.

Can't catch Soviet tanks in western Manchuko.

The Soviets have another heavy push coming out of China...Soviet tanks and motorcycle corp shatter a tank regiment there.

Balikpapen invasion continuing to drop troops and bombard.

There is still a lot of troops north of Singers. Most haven't been evacuated.

Rebuilt troops seem to need PP to repurchase.

Ground combat at Balikpapan (64,97)

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 3412 troops, 48 guns, 3 vehicles, Assault Value = 302

Defending force 6430 troops, 61 guns, 28 vehicles, Assault Value = 70

Assaulting units:
6th KNIL Regiment
32nd Infantry Division
Roodenburg Cdo
Marinier Battalion

Defending units:
8th Tank Rgt /4
30th JNAF AF Unit
6th Field Construction Battalion
21st Air Flotilla /3
2nd Base Force
47th Field AA Battalion
44th Field AA Battalion
20th Port Unit
10th Port Unit
Yokosuka 3rd SNLF /1

There is no possibility of a counter offensive anywhere.

Thanks guys, got a turn in the inbox, and nothing good will come of it for Japan. I will be a day late in Luzon, Balikpapen will fall, Cam Ranh Bay might fall with a huge number of support troops, Soviets and Chinese will continue to infiltrate.

And the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions cannot catch the retreating Soviet Armor, and if they do they get so far away from the rail lines...

Lots of bad things happened for Japan...beaten back in Luzon. The 15cm artillery arrives just in time to retreat. Not sure if they came out of reserve no pursuit mode to fight...65th Brigade will now probably be caught in open terrain by marauding Stuarts.

Balikpapen falls...

Last port on Malaya falls...

Cam Ranh Bay holds but forts knocked down...

Lots of Soviet attacks in western Manchuko...they are here in strength. More Japanese units cut off

2nd Tank Division runs pell mell into 14 Soviet units. 1st Tank on their way...plus other. We will see how the Type 1 Medium tank can hold up.

More later...

Sept 12,1942

1st and 2nd Tank Divisions will launch an attack against a Soviet Corp backed with depeleted armor but full artillery here...time to see how well the Type 1 Medium Tanks can do.

Cam Ranh Bay survives another deliberate attack...Allies pushing forward on Luzon, and ABDA fleet approaching Manado...

To the west the Soviet push is all tank units including divisions...pretty classic lawrence of arabia stuff, here, massive Soviet armored columns coming out of the Gobi Desert backed with hordes of Chinese. I don't have anywhere near the number of units to stop them.

Here, Japan is attempting an encirclement but very doubtful I can pull it off.

Japanese armor does very well...

IJA wipes out an American tank unit...Stuarts I think. Feels good. We strafed them first, then bombarded them, and finally attacked. Really, nothing to get excited about as the tanks pursued ill advisedly and could not be supported by the rest of the Allied forces on Luzon.

Attacking force 12378 troops, 109 guns, 59 vehicles, Assault Value = 310

Defending force 43 troops, 0 guns, 15 vehicles, Assault Value = 1
