Hey everyone, started fooling around with LV this weekend. Pretty cool :)

In the first battle 'The World will Hold it's Breath', I got a DV. I took the last onjective on the next to last turn, and, really, it played how I expected. I didn't track casulties, though, so no report on them.

Battle Two: An Early Decision, I took the immediate attack option. Got a MV, mostly because I didn't realize that my 105s were limbered until turn 9!! Heh. Big oops on my part. Still, I did well, losing 86 men, and killing 331 Russians, as well as knocking out 2 76.2 mm FGs and 2 50mm mortars.

Battle Three: Expanding the Bridgegead. I took the option 'A different mission.' I got a draw, in a hard fight. Very fun, but, hard :). We lost only 28 men, but had 2 Opels destroyed, as well as 2 Mk IIs, 1 Sdkfz 250/9, and 3 Sdkfz 250/1s. They lost 116 men, a 45mm ATG, 6 BA-3s, 5 ZIS trucks, an 82mm mortar, 1 BA-10, 1 T-28, and 3 BT-2s.

Will keep you all updated as I go!

Alex

Hi Alex, about time. Do me a favor and let me know what you think of the documents, maps and photos as well as the story line. I have gotten very little input about the first 3 and a lot of flak about the storyline becoming irrelevant once the 0 units are replaced from losses. I poured my heart into the storyline and the historical writings.

In the coup for the bridge, battle 3, did any of the gliders go off map?

Heya Brent,

Here are my thoughts:

Storyline: Excellent!!! I love it, and very much enjoy reading it. Very well done.

Photos: Again, I like, talk more about them below.

Maps: The maps are very cool. I like how they are period maps with German or Russian writing. Again, very well done.

Text: I'm liking this as well. There are some typos, but much less than Watchtower has, and I love, and appreciate, then when the text is long, there is no pic, or just a small pic. Makes it much easier to read. I hate clicking 'next page' every 10 words :)

The three gliders all overshot the bridge, but stayed on the map.

Also, my casualty notes, for man losses are infantry/crew only, and not having arty factored in. It's hard to track arty kills :). So, assume a few more men die on each side than I report.

Now, for battle 4. Recon to Radziechow (with Air Support option).

This was a recon? Wow! Very tough battle, seemed there was no end to the armor :). The town itself was easy though. And, of course, the Luftwaffe never showed :). I somehow got only a draw, though, I think it should have been a MV. We lost 25 men (4 of those were captured), 2 Sdkfz 250/9s, 3 Mk IIs, 3 Mk IIIs, and 4 Mk IVs. 3 Other Mark IIIs withdrew after losing main guns.

The Soviets lost 123 men, 6 BT-7s, 10 BA-20s, 3 KV-2s, 8 T-28s, 7 T-26s, 1 FAI, 3 T-34s, 10 BT-2s, and 5 KV-1s. So, we tore up the attack pretty well.

Alex

Betting on the Luftwaffe in the beginning is always an iffy proposition. The PPT hexes in the middle make up a large part of the scoring. I tinkered with this one and the first node, The World will Hold its Breath, more than most of the others to get the right balance. A draw ids the expected score and the points awarded for this battle reflect that. The next one should be different.

Yes, it would have been. I was crusing, stopped the enemy cold, swung onto the Counter attack on turn 7, had them routed on 10, mopped up, mostly, by 12, waiting for the morale to break and take the win, killing arty, wracking up huge casualty counts - and, then on Turn 16, lose a track to a field gun and the game crashes!!!!

And, of course, Mega's don't auto save. *sigh*

And, I hate replaying battles!!

Anyway to play the Russsian, make 'em surrender turn 1, and move on without having to do the whole thing over??

By the way, it's a good scen :)

And I'm back in the East Front saddle.

Replayed the crashed 'The Army's Door Knocker' in 'arcade mode', and of course won, but as I already had done that when it crashed the first time, I thought that was ok.

Then, onto Vebber Takes the Point, with the Alternate Road option. And, I pulled a draw, though, it should have been at least a MV.

And, honestly, this is the first LV scen I have complaints about.

First, where were my panzers??? I can't imagine Haumptmann Vebber being given a dash ahead mission, and saying "You know, Wirth, I think we should leave the panzers behind. Our trucks will scare Russian tanks off!" Yet, that's exactly what he did.

Second, not one, but two, 100 per turn!!! VHs, neither of which had any bearing on the actual mission, nor did one of the end of battle ones. I can see the ones in the small town, and the exit hex, but the per turn ones make no sense.

Nor, did the platoon sized SMG squads at the end.

The mission concept and the enemy OOB were cool though :)

I lost 15 men, 1 track, a Stug, and 3 trucks. I exited 18 trucks, 1 track, 124 men, 2 ATGs, 2 20mm Flak guns, 2 Mortars, 2 Field Guns, and a Stug.

They lost 207 men, 2 ATGs, 2 T-28s, 2 BT-7s, 1 BT-5, 1 BA-10, and 1 OT-133.

Oh, also, for alternate nodes, the victory/defeat text should be different. It was pretty stupid being ICly yelled at for losing too many tanks, when I had exactly Zero of them on the battlefield!!!

A stug is an Assault Gun, and while I do like them, they're not panzers :)

And, indeed, arguing that they are panzers actually enhances my point - Vebber would bring his mobile guns along on a dash.

However, moving past that, onto Touch and Go, I get to turn 10, and, after a Mk III wastes a BT-5, I, once more, crash.

Very annoying. Especially, as I dislike the design of that scen, and will now have to replay it from the start!!!

Well, I suppose such are the vagarities of war. And I hope I spelled that right!
