I have very recently posted a query on activation and many thanks again to Lokasenna for his most helpful advice on this topic.
I had a couple of follow up questions and wonder whether I could elicit views on these if possible.
Having got Kamikazes I find that moving them and aiming them are both a touch problematic.
I had also assumed I would use Tsurugi bombers for the IJA units but I now wonder whether I should use late Oscars for greater range (albeit with 2x 250kg bombs compared with 1x 800kg).
However I had hoped to use the relevant fighter squadrons for inteception and I would be concerned inter alia about a potential morale drop resulting from usage as Kamikazes.
Many thanks in advance for any views.

I'm not sure, actual bombload is even used during calculation of kamikaze strike damage. Long ago, one of the Devs mentioned, that only maximum plane load counts (and that doesn't include Transport Planes).

you need a lot of fighters to escort the kami's through to target, or you will end up with a 'turkey shoot'. Then you really need really large numeric superiority*, a variety of altitudes help, faster is better, higher DUR seems to help as well.

* this doesn't mean just one large 2000 plane raid … if you can get 50 raids of 40 planes each to launch, eventually you will wear out the CAP/AA as well. Point is, you will lose 200 planes so you need to take out at least 4 CV's (maybe 6?) just to balance out the VP's ...

Many thanks for above views - much appreciated.
Can I ask whether there is much of a morale drop after using a squadron as Kamikazes (ie how quickly could they be reused from a large airfield with plenty of supply and A/S).

Yeah, about as much as them crashing into a ship or the sea.

You launch a kami attack, the only planes you have left are the ones that did not launch. If they all launch (leader rolls) morale is moot as there are no pilots left. You rebuild from scratch.

Morale is a unit-level stat though, unlike fatigue and experience which are an aggregate of the pilot-level stats.

So if the morale of the unit plummets to, say, 20 even though all the pilots are gone/dead, putting new pilots in there is not going to reset the morale.

You'll need to add more planes and pilots anyway, so the unit is going to have to sit while those planes repair and the pilots arrive.

Exactly. The morale does plummet. But with the right combination of leadership/base/HQ/etc it rebounds pretty quick. It is a rare situation where you would be able to launch multiple kami attacks with the same unit within 7 days (here I am referring to the need to have the allied player cooperate and keep a target worthy of a kami attack in range).
Not impossible, just not probable. But, if you plan for it, you could.

Pilots arrive immediately, for the most part, if you select them the right way.

If the planes are SR1, they will be ready in just a couple of days.

All true. I train my Kamikazes so I have to pull them from the pool, which takes up to 7 days. I think we're splitting hairs here. I still have never launched a Kamikaze attack (or even had the opportunity to create a Kamikaze unit). It's all conjecture on my part. Getting closer though.

geoffreyg: That second g better not stand for gorn, because there's only room for one of us here. Pursuant to your request:

1. Never invite a Kamikaze to dinner. Your daughter will fall in love and he will always break her heart.

2. Seeing you're from London old boy old chap, I recommend you stuff them in the boot. If you have too many for that then only move them about by lorry so none will be the wiser, wink wink, nod nod.

3. Just in case you are discovered, teach them beforehand to sing "Karma karma karma chameleon, you come and go, you come and go".

Release top 10 pilots

If you've trained only kamikaze pilots in LowN, then you'll only pull kamikaze pilots in this way. And get them much faster, saving you oodles of clicks.

Yep, that's exactly how I (will) do it.
