All -

I am trying to determine whether it's possible to assign assets to Support or ASW Patrol in such a way that they remain at a bearing and distanced fixed compared to a mothership. So, for example, an E-2C Hawkeye remaining 100 miles from USS Nimitz at 144 degrees, and moving as necessary to remain at that bearing and distance.

I have been able to assign the asset to a mission with no problem, and to create the fixed reference point. But I am having difficulty connecting the reference point to the mission, and the aircraft remains in a fixed position rather than moving with the mothership.

I've tried both SetMission and the 'zone' option of AddMission, but haven't gotten the desired result. Can anyone suggest an approach to achieve this goal, or an alternate mechanism for achieving the goal of having AEW/ASW assets remain at a fixed bearing and distance from the mothership?

I recognize this might not be tactically advisable - but would like to consider it as an alternative to cluttering up the Mission Manager and screen with several different patrol boxes and their associated RPs.

Thanks,
Geoff

have you tried setting the rps to move relative to a unit? there are a few different options to do that under Mission and Ref Points

Thanks Whicker - no, I don't think I have. What function would that be under - SetMission, AddReferencePoint, something else?

EDIT: On second look, yes, I have been using "relativeto='USS Nimitz'" successfully. What I've been unable to do is link that reference point with the AEW/ASW mission so that the airborne asset holds that point to conduct its mission. Thanks!

are you trying to do this all via lua?

Adding a mission with RPs is pretty easy outside of lua - just using the mission editor, I assume you already know how to do that. If it is all via lua, then it may be a little complex, I have not done that yet.

have you gone thru this?

Have used the Github guide extensively, but didn't come across this draft script in my work today - will review. Thank you!

Yes, via Lua. The Mission Editor and I are old buddies.
