A couple odd things I've found regarding laser guided weapons, not sure if it's an issue with how lasers are handled or just the specific weapons involved... First, the RB 70 Rayrider Mk 1, RB 70 Rayrider Mk 2, and RB 70 Bolide are beam-riding laser-guided MANPADS, and in real-life need visual contact to be guided to their target. But in the game, they can be fired up through solid clouds. In the Database Viewer they're listed as having "Datalink (DL/INS) mid-course plus Passive terminal guidance" and a SALH Seeker as their only sensor, which should mean they rely on the target being illuminated by the ground laser in order to guide. In the first attached scenario, the Blue F-15 has come within a few miles of the Red SAM sites over a Moderate cloud layer between 2000 and 7000 ft. As expected, the F-15 cannot drop its GBU-12 LGBs on the radar site because it cannot illuminate the target through the clouds. But all of the SAMs can fire on the F-15, and will do so immediately if it's marked hostile. Expected behavior here I think would be that the SAM sites get the same message as the F-15: "No directors are available to illuminate this target". I encountered this problem in a community pack scenario involving F-111s and it was quite a surprise. Second, the GBU-54(V)1/B LJDAM should use GPS/INS guidance when dropped on a fixed target, but laser guidance when dropped on a mobile target so it can maneuver to follow the target. It's listed in the Database Viewer as having "Inertial (INS) mid-course plus Passive terminal guidance" and a Laser Spot Tracker as the only sensor, but the launch platform never seems to use its laser to illuminate the target, even when the target is mobile. By contrast, the GBU-12 is listed as having "Semi-Active Laser Homing (SALH)" and a Laser Spot Tracker, and requires laser illumination through its entire flight. The second attached scenario shows two Blue F-15Es having just dropped a GBU-54 and a GBU-12 on a moving tank group. The GBU-12 is using laser illumination, but the GBU-54 isn't. I encountered this problem in another community pack scenario where F-15Es with LJDAMS are used to stop an enemy tank column. As long as the tanks don't maneuver, you can usually get enough hits, but the LJDAMS should be just as accurate as LGBs against moving targets. I haven't tested the other LJDAM weapons, but all of the other LJDAMs are listed in the Database Viewer only as being "Inertially guided", with no on-board sensors, so that might be something to check as well. Please let me know if you need any other info, and thanks!
