Take on me, take me on...

I'll take you up. No AAR from me though, I don't have the time for it.

If you want something more competitive, take the Allies since I have yet to play the Axis as PBEM.
If you want more of a learning experience then take the Axis.

You are on Taxman, although I hesitate to play someone who quotes old A HA songs(lol). I've got a soft spot for old New wave songs myself But I prefer Rock & Roll.

I have accepted games from Taxman and Rannug61, that's about all I can handle at the moment. From what I read, I don't expect the Rannug one to be lengthy, so I will let you all know when I am up for more beatings.

April 1941

To my very big surprise PJL1973 resigned. Ok, I was doing well so far but the war in the East didn't even start and he USA were at mob 54% (I think).

But!

- Franco already joined in late 1940
- 13 British ships (4 Battleships, 2 Carriers) already sunk, no German losses, only 3 Italian losses
- Malta and Gibraltar under German control
- Russia far from entering the war before July
- Graphs show already around 80 German units

But I think what really made him want to throw the towel was the last turn on sea. I placed two subs near the northwestern coast of UK and could surprise two battleships. One of them even took 8 damage (fast cruise mode I guess). He could make it to the port, did some repairs (to 7 I guess) but I was able to use my two subs to sink it in port.

With already 4 destroyers and 2 carriers sunk that was no big danger for my subs at that moment. The ASW research did not start at all or was not finished so my subs took almost no damage at all. So I even moved in my surface ships to set up another trap. I think I could "surprise" 4 or 5 ships that turn. I took almost no damage again and in return I would have been able to sink another big part of his ships. At least two or three more big surface ships (heavy cruiser, battlecruiser or even battleship). The other strategy would have been to sink all destroyers in that area to make sure my subs are safe for a looooong time. So his cruisers and battleships were useless. In ports they would have been sunk by subs and in open sea they were outnumbered what leaves the UK unprotected. Then the subs would have hunted down every single convoy ship heading for a port in UK.

Yes, I think the game was lost for him but I still think it was a bit too early to be sure. Anyway...

game is over, Axis (Mika) won!
That means I'm open for another game again. I don't care about the side I play.

Mika

I'm resigning from this tournament. There is nothing I can do as the Allies to stop the Axis, and whatever I do doesn't seem to work. The main reason I stopped so early was because of the naval losses. Mika had already destroyed my entire Med fleet and he would have done the same to the rest of it. And without the navy the Western allies can't fight back. So it was inevitable that I was going to lose this, even before the Russians came in.

Experience from two current games considering "Uber-Diplo" with the Axis: in both games I used it, but not most intense, just what was over after securing Spain. While influencing the SU didn't went very well and I had to waste many MPPs before finally declaring war in Aug. 41, this outcome could of course change with a little more luck. Nevertheless it's a dead race, unless you're planning to do a Seelöwe and delay the joining until 42.

In my other game I was far more successfull against the US, and I managed to keep them at 50% until early summer 52 so far, especially because my opponent didn't counter (which is of course the worst possible reaction). US weren't able to send any convoys to GB, and their research has been totally crippeld, while the UK lacked the necessary MPPs to deal with the Axis alone (and hardly being able to counter).

That's why I resume Uber-Diplo to be OP. After receiving many complains about it during my games (and after KZ is missing anyway, hehe), I recommend to abstain from it for both sides, or at least to implement a houserule, where both players agree if they want to use it.

I agree that Dip chits must be awarded at certain times in the least
I also think since we all know ussr becomes allied that what happens in early years
is way to unpredictable, as an example
So ussr ger pact in 1939 over poland
then ussr goes winter vs finns
allies support finns
and all this time both france and UK are putting chits into ussr
now this makes no sense at all, or at least while fr and uk are against the ussr so to speak
how do they still get hits to bring ussr more to the allied side
at least these chits in the ussr at the time should not be able to fire until war vs finns
with allies supporting finns is over
I still think the best idea is a limit to dip chits and ability to influence countries
you could even do a mini spanish civil war >> SCW to decide which way franco will lean before
WW2 actually starts, and if the history changes the result then in reality axis chits in spain
would have less % value than allied chits
which I also believe is part of the problem, UK had much more dip influence than france did
ger had more dip inf than Italy did
In the game USA's chits are 7%
so go on a sliding scale
USA 5 chits .. ok so depending on who there trying to influence depends on what %
actually goes into the minors ... could be 7% if there allied influence or 5 or 6% if the
country is axis influenced
same would apply to UK and France as well as Ger and Italy
just some of my thoughts

for me it would be enough to have the house rule that noone influences USSR or USA
every other country is ok for me. With the last patch it was a bit more difficult to get Spain into the war. Now that is ok for me. Everything else woult be some tweaking with MPPs. For example removing one of the mines in Spain to lower the overall value.

That's what's meant with "Uber-Diplo", influencing Majors.

There us a potential problem in my game vs IrishGuards.

In Axis turn Paris fell and France government was moved to Bordeaux. In allied turn an English corps right next to the city moved in and recaptured Bordeaux. Game considered France liberated and for the 2 following turns I got
continus messages popping up about "Vichy France is pressured to join the Allies" etc. Checked the diplo status and all Vichy minors are more or less 20% pro Allied.
And thats, kind of ok, but a couple of turns later I checked the USSR mobilization, which was at 45%, in September 1940. Previously the Allies had sent the expedition to Finland, and USSR was successfully repelled, repelled in the Winter War, which in most games has USSR at 8-12% mobilization in Sept-December 1940 (I did the same as the Allies in a game I am currently playing. November 1940 USSR is on 9%).

So what I am asking is the liberation of France raising USSR mobilization? Is the recapture of Bordeaux meant to trigger those events?

I can't see anything in the scripts that would do that.

Have you got 2 units near Warsaw? Has he been using diplomacy?

You could always ask Irish Guards, and if he wants to keep things secret he can PM me.

Yeah I had 2 and then 4 units near Warsaw, and kept at all times units <18.

If it isn't this then it sure is diplo. Im sure I saw one hit, but I haven't been watching all end turn summaries diligently, so I bet there were a couple of more.

I challenge you IrishGuards. I can play either side but you'll get a better opponent if I play the Axis. I'd prefer to house rule Uberdiplo to not buy 150 cost diplomacy chits. I can play several turns a day most days. Do you accept? Let me know and I'll start a game and send a password.

Just suffering through a royal beat up by Sugar. Has anyone ever beat this guy. He know the game very well and makes the Germans an incredible force. Two hits by his bombers take out a brand new army. Any tips how to fight him?

I'm available for a game. I challenge Sugar if I can play the Axis. Or LLv34Mika, or MrLongleg playing either side. Would prefer no uber-diplo. I have a few games against humans under my belt. I'd like to get in on this tourney! Let me know!

Jeepers!

I think Sugar already has me. I'm trying to talk him into giving me a rematch. I made a ton of mistakes. I may concede right away if he does. Otherwise, I'll soldier on a while. I'm learning a lot.

Edit: Looks like I'll have to struggle forward with a, let's say ... 'muted' Axis game. Still, its very early, and I over-invested in tech, for reasons passing all understanding ... did that in two games, but which may nevertheless bare fruit. Anyway, I guess I'm gonna get to figure out the advantages of a very slow start for the Axis. You do learn something new every turn when playing Sugar.
