I apologize if this is in fact covered somewhere in the manual, but I'm having a hard time calculating an ETA for TF's. I send a convoy from LA to Noumea, how do I know roughly when I can expect it to arrive? I can see how many hexes roughly it will move per turn but surely I don't have to count hex distance between A and B? Thanks all in advance!

I don't remember the game giving you an ETA so yes it would be a matter of calculating speed and distance to get time taken. It's pretty easy to do this as when you click on a hex and mouseover anywhere else, it tells you the distance from the selected hex. Use that distance given and your TF's speed to determine the ETA. Of course, there could be ETA info somewhere, but I'm not aware of it.

Don't bother, it'll get there when it gets there. The weather has something to say about it and you can't predict that. Wear and tear that may or may not occur also affect that. In any case you needn't count hexes. Just click on the origin hex and wave your cursor over the destination and you'll have the range.

Another issue is escorts (if present) needing to refuel at sea along the way. Plus, if your commander is a nervous Nellie and he thinks there's a battleship chasing him you don't know what he'll do.

Oh, so now I have to do math? Great.

Seriously though, your ETA could also be effected by outside factors. One such is refueling.

Yeah I know about all the things that can make accurate ETA difficult, I mostly want a rough estimate calculation. But sounds like the game will not tell you distance of a route path? I guess you have to remember the waypoints and get the sum of the distances between each.

The total distance is right there in your TF screen. Here is my TF heading for PH:
EDIT: this is the actual route distance, not a straight line range that ignores land masses.

1st number is TF endurance (how many hexes it could steam until it runs out of fuel)
2nd number is actual distance the TF will travel to TF Destination hex and Back to Home port

And you can calculate ETA from this. Those numbers left of red circle (7/4) shows speed per phase. Assuming TF will not use Full Speed, just divide distance by double second number (night, and day phase movement at cruise speed).
This is of course rough estimation, as actual speed can be like 4.5 hexes (you can check in manual, precise values for every knots), and they can stop for refuel, engine can get damaged etc.
