Japan-USMC meeting engagement, year '43, 5000 pts, 10% arty, no air units, everything but c&c on, visibility ~25.

-------------------------------

Japanese recon has spotted a major marine force approaching alongside a small river. Colonel Muto is sent to engage and defeat the cursed yankees, of whom not many shall live long enough to see the sunset.

Speaking of sunset... It's raining and therefore movement is slowed down somewhat but the Japanese feet are hastened by the thought of glory of upcoming victory.

Pearl Habour revisited, the morning breaks with an unexpected an unprovoked hammering from Japanese artiellery South and Center.

But these marines will not be caught sleeping. The Japanese attack appears as unplanned as unprovoked and the only effect is more holes in the sky on a rainy day. :D

But the devil has be awoken and the fury will be unleashed

Where are those puny little cowardly marines? Did they decide to spare their worthless lives and retreat already?

Nah, we can smell the rotten yankees even if we can't see them yet. They just did not have enough wits to run away and now it's too late. Soon we shall drown them in their own blood! In the name of the Emperor!

Looks like the sons of Nippon forgot to pump their bicycles.

A quiet day in the woods.

There was some action in the southern swamp as Japanese MC-scouts ran into an M4 and two accompanying recon patrols. Two brave motorcyclists had to lose their lives but the rest of the squad withdrew to safety, just to call for some artillery support. Soon 105mm shells begun raining on the enemy.

.. and dash for safety. :D

In a second encounter towards the centre of the map a USMC scout becomes the first reported Amarican calsuty of the engagement. :(

Do the Japs have anything other than bisycles and artiellery?

Maybe we are soon to find out!

Familiar pattern: Japanese MC and recon squads run into advancing marines, fall back and call for arty... :D

A few more close engagements between scouts. Nothing much happens except for a Jap tank being repaired

Very quiet turn. Japanese scouts killed some of their American counterparts.

It's already turn five and there has been hardly any fighting yet... That d@mn rain, those f****** swamps, I hope the Amis will drown in them!! ;)

It appears that the Emporal Army is indeed a few bikers and other scouts roaming around in the jungle looking for monkey meat and a good place to drop some artiellery.

We slaughter them as soon as we see them. :p

Not a lot of challange for the Marines

Tried to kill a bazooka sec. Results: retreating scouts and motorcycles and a burning HA-GO light tank!

One M4 got its suspension damaged during extremely accurate Japanese artillery barrage...

It appears that the Marines are getting closer to the Jap positions.

A number of armoured vehicles are spotted and an AC must die. :p

A couple of Emporal scout teams are destroyed and a decimated motorcycle squad and its HMG companion is seen fleeing in the direction of the Jap lines. :D

Now this is getting interesting. It seems that the marines are really pushing for the central vhexes, I counted 10 75mm packs and 5 81mm mortars bombarding that area.

Up north Japanese AT-gun managed to castrate an approaching M4. ;)

The brave Marines finish off yet another scout car, two MC squads and a recon patrol for no own casulties.

An AT Gun is unveiled and takes a bit of shelling :p

The Japs continue their campaign of running and shouting for artielliry. Have they no leader at all? :D

Dying is recon's job, that's what they do for, ehm, living. ;) And there's no greater honor than sacrificing one's life for the Emperor! :p

Heavy bombardments by the Americans just keep going on and on...

Yet another Jap MC gang must die and a few others loose crew members.

Finally it looks like the Japs are starting to move forward!

We've been moving all the time but it takes some time thanks to the weather...

Japs get some payback killing a recon squad and a bazooka team. In the north Raiders are being barbequed by SS Eng. tank.

Maybe it was that sweet scent of burning enemies (or a misclick ;) ) that blurred the judgement of one of my M3 drivers and made him charge an unexplored part of the jungle, just to get assaulted by another Raider squad. Luckily for the driver the assault failed.

A bad day of JAP hunting for the Marines.

To the North the enemy is advancing with noumerousarmoured vehicles to support including an flame tank:(

The assoult is ferouisly fought off an a cover of artiellery is laid, but will the Japs try their luck again ? And what would they find;) An armoured vehicle is hit on the track whilst further back in the jungle a Ho-Chi has its belts refitted. :p

To the center of the island a Jap offensive thrust is spotted.

The Japs sends in noumorous squads and tanks to fight the reconnesance patrol and bravely manages to make it flee with a minor loss.

To the South a minor Jap garrison is overrun and send fleeing up the river. Did the remember their paddle :D

Two M4's destroyed by the Emperor's finest warriors: one got blasted by 47mm AT-gun, other one took a little swim when bridge under it's tracks was blown away by a 105mm shell.
But sadly, one Shinhoto Chi-Ha was destroyed by (lucky) American artillery.

Also killed some paratroopers near a small clearing in the central part of the map and continued toasting Raiders in the north.

This has been a couple of challanging turns for the MArines.

But morale is high and the loss of yet another M4 to JAp artiellery is equalled by the US artiellery.

Its going to be a hard day in the jungle.

Hmmm... Trouble brewing in south. Three M4's spotted there. Tried to engage them with an improved Chi-Ha with no good results. :(

Some fighting near center as two Para squads are driven back to the woods. Meanwhile flametanks keep things hot for the marines up north.

Jap arty started bombarding a suspected USMC arty park and even managed to destroy an ammo carrier. Nice one.

... in the jungle, as the Marines and Japs continues the war on three fronts.

It is evident that the Marines are in trouble in the North, where a vastly superior Japanese force is attacking with numerous tanks and flame tanks.:eek:

The centre battle ground is fairly quiet awaiting the Japanese onslaught, if they have any drive left.

To the Soputh the MArines are making good progress sending three more tanks to the eternal emperial hunting grounds :D :D :D

Killed that turretless immobilized M4 in the north. That plus some random shooting here and there.

A bit of hand-to-hand. Nothing much.

The Japs must be regrouping.

Things are getting interesting in the center as paratroopers and flamethrower squads are being pushed back by the Japs. :D

Elsewhere quiet.

... who are digging in North and Center.

There are positive signs though. To the north a Jap MBT, an CS Tank and a sniper gets a little to high on sake and pays the penalty. :D :D :D

Towards the Center and South nothing much.

The Japs are clearly using their heavy artiellery to make their best of the US forces tendency to supress easily. :(

I wish there would be a good response to this tactic.

Killed some raiders and a machine-gun. Also tried to destroy an M4 but only managed to cause some minor damage.

There's are some major fires in the jungle, so breathing is getting difficult and therefore troops are gaining suppression even without being fired at by the enemy...

The battle is getting scewed.

The Japs are killing Marines to the North whilst the Marines are killing Japs to the South.

How will this end

Burning M4, scorched marines and great balls of fire in the north as my SS Engineer Tanks keep rolling forwards. :D

Some progress were made in the center also. Hopefully this will give a boost to those fighting in the south... It's looking rather grim down there. :(
