May 23-25, 1942 NW Australia Forgot to mention that we had some grand excitement off the NW Aussie Coast. My search planes from Koepang have periodically picked up enemy convoys moving along the coast from west-to-east. Since the Fleet has been concentrated elsewhere, I have not been able to do anything about these movements. This changed as Fuso and Yamashiro plus 2 CL, and 8 DD arrived at Soerabaja to support the upcoming landings along the NW Coast. A convoy is spotted and the STF is created with an equal number of ships split into two TFs. One is sent to Exmouth Bay and the other goes for Port Hedland. The TFs move without being discovered and we strike the jackpot on the 23rd when Fuso, Naka, and 4 DDs find a large TF at Pt. Hedlund. Only 4 PCs guard the vulnerable AK and AP. The wolves FEAST on the enemy!!! When the smoke clears, the enemy loses 4 PC, 1 KV, 1 TK, 7 AK, and 2 AP. Troops lost included 108 Cas, 74 Guns, and 28 Vehicles. Very nice. The next day, BB Yamashiro gets some action as she, CL Jintsu, and 4 DD sink an AP and 3 AK in the same location. Lovely. BANZAI!
